Phyllis J. Harook
of Chelsea, Mi.

Age 67, passed away Thursday April 14, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 23, 1937 in Saline, Michigan the daughter of Charlie and Violet (Mericle) Fox. Phyllis was a successful Avon representative, reaching Presidents Club Status each of her thirty years of service. She was also very active in the Ann Arbor Women’s Bowling Association, and a league secretary for 30 years. She miraculously competed in three leagues until January 2005. On September 5, 1964 she married John M. Harook in Port Huron and he survives; also surviving are 3 children, Cindy (Woody) Hoover of Munith, Jeff (Kellysue) Harook of Grass Lake, and Tracie (John) Moniz of Canton; 3 sisters, Carol Bell of Dexter, Jean (Dan) Campbell of Saline, and Mary Hudson of Chelsea; 1 daughter-in-law, Dagmar Harook of Jackson; 7 grandchildren and 2 1/2 great-grandchildren; also her mother-in-law, Gene DeSmither of Roseville. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Greg Harook, her parents, and 1 sister, Diane Utley. Funeral services will be held on Monday April 18, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Rev. Robert Castle officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Huron Valley Humane Society. Age 69, died April 20, 2005 at Beaumont Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1935 in Detroit. He graduated from Michigan State University with his master’s degree in forestry and arboriculture. He worked for Davey Tree Company, and Henry Ford Hospital Grounds. He loved to fish and boat. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak, as well as St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. He married Judith A. Chapman on November 15, 1997, and she survives. He is also survived by his four children, Luke ( ) Guinan of Mt. Morris, Joseph Guinan of California, Lorene Fredericks of Jackson, and Bonnie (Brett) Holmes of North Carolina; Judy’s three children Angela Nick of Lake Orion, MI Julie Murphy of Goodrich, MI and Bill Nick of Goodrich, MI; also two sisters, Loretta (Ed) Sutliff of Chelsea, and Cathy (Dennis Wagenschutz) Guinan of Chelsea, one sister-in-law Marcia of Maumee, Ohio, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, James, and his prior wife, Sharon. Funeral Mass was held Saturday April 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Age 77, passed away Saturday April 16, 2005 at Riverview of Ann Arbor. He was born on November 27, 1927 in Evansbury, Pennsylvania, the son of Kenneth and Velma (Davis) Conklin. Bud was a firefighter for several years for Superior Township, also worked for the Ypsilanti Feed mill and finally was the Constable for Superior Township. Surviving are 1 brother Benjamin (Dorothy) Conklin of Whitmore Lake, 3 nephews and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marian Reynolds Conklin. A Memorial service will be Wednesday April 20, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 N Main Street, Chelsea with Rev. Laura Kelsey officiating. Age 74, passed away peacefully Friday, April 22, 2005 surround by her entire family at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born on July 28, 1930 in Chelsea, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Anita (Grammer ) Eschelbach. Kathleen had lived in the area all her life. She was a past secretary for the Order of the Eastern Star Chelsea Chapter , an active member of the Covenant Church and worked for the Chelsea School District Student office for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed trips to Hawaii, watching her granddaughter, Kristyn, play softball and being married to Claude for over 50 years. Surviving are 2 children Jeanine (David) Frey of Saline, and Brian (Gail) Arnett of Manchester. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Pastor Anthony Dickerson officiating. Helmut H. Hucke
Stockbridge, formerly of Dexter

Age 66, died at 1:04 pm Friday afternoon April 22, 2005
at his home. He was born November 26, 1938 in Steinau, Germany,
the son of Hermann and Hildegard (Pawollek)Hucke. Helmut came to
the United States in 1969, having been transferred to Cellasto Midwest
in Ann Arbor as plant superintendent and then promoted to plant
manager in 1974. In 1977, Helmut began working at the University
of Michigan plant department as a steamfitter and was a foreman 1
supervisor of the plant department from 1987 thru 1995. Helmut
loved raising his animals and enjoyed the outdoors. He especially
enjoyed his camping trip to Alaska via the Alaskan highway.
He also treasured his home in the country and riding his tractor
through the woods. He is survived by his wife Margery (Fisk)
Hucke, whom he married on June 27, 1992; his two daughters Christina
(Brian) Cumper of Canton and Claudia Hucke of Ypsilanti
and his step daughter Carol (Michael) Hoppe of Fishers, Indiana;
four grandchildren Megan and Ellen Hoppe and Zachary and
Paige Cumper . His former wife Ursula (Steinbach) Hucke;
his sister Ilse (Gunter) Tiesing, a niece and nephew and several cousins
in Germany. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 29, 2005 at
4:00 pm at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 North Main St.,
Chelsea. Officiating will be his son in law, Pastor Michael Hoppe of
New Beginnings Church, Franklin, Indiana. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm.

Age 90, passed away Friday April 22, 2005 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born on September 13, 1914 in Lyndon Township the son of Wirt and Beulah (Marsh) Boyce. He was a life long farmer and member of the Dexter United Methodist Church. Community involvements include board member of Washtenaw County Soil Conservation, Dexter Co-operative Company, Zoning Board of Lima Township, Dexter Lions Club, Free and Accepted Masons Lodge # 262 of Michigan and Washtenaw County Farm Bureau. On May 20, 1944 he married Joyce V. Hashley and she survives, also surviving are their children, Lynn A. (Laura) Boyce of Orange, California, Sharleen E. (Richard) Dettling and Roger D. (Jane) Boyce all of Dexter; their grandchildren, Julie (Tony) Trinkle, Andrew (Karra) Dettling, Benjamin Boyce and Jacob Boyce all of Dexter, Rebekah (Jacob) Murphree of Chelsea and Aaron Boyce of California, and 2 great-grandchildren, Alissa and Ryan Trinkle; brothers and sisters, Shirley (Arlo) Wasson of Holt, Wynn (Mary Louise) Boyce of Stockbridge, Max (Mary Lou) Boyce of Stockbridge and Hertha Boyce sister-in-law of Gregory as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and their spouses, Elaine(Herman) Martin, and Katrene(Albert) Gall, one brother, A.J. Boyce and a grandson, Justin Boyce. Age 57, passed away Thursday April 21, 2005 at her home. She was born on November 8, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Russel and Sarah (Bradford) DeMaggio. She had lived in the area since 1993 working for CVS pharmacy as a drug technician. She enjoyed golfing, reading, computers, and lake life. On January 26, 1990 she married Hurley G. Michaels and he survives, also surviving are her parents of Florida, 2 sons, Brian Gantner of Birmingham, and Sean (Christina) Gunn of Garden City. 1 brother Frank (Margaret) DeMaggio of Sterling Heights and 1 sister Joan (Earl) Caderet of Florida. Elizabeth has 11 grandchildren and she adored them all. A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday April 27, 2005 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. Age 55, passed away Saturday April 16, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C. following a short illness.He was born on October 4, 1949 in Ann Arbor, Michigan the son of Howard and Alice (Quigley) Bergman. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1967 and enjoyed most school sports. He enjoyed Hunting and fishing in his early years but golfing became his favorite. John attended Jackson Community college before listing in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country in Vietnam. He was the Vice president and Chief Information Officer for Community Federal Credit Union in Goldsboro. Surviving are His mother of Chelsea, 2 children Stasie Bredermitz and John Bergman both of Ann Arbor. 1 brother Steve (Kris) Bergman , 3 sisters, Janet (David) Buku, and Beverly Holly all of Chelsea, and Debbie (Paul) Walter of Dexter. 1 niece and 7 nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father. Funeral services will be Tuesday April 26, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea. Age 83 passed away April 19, 2005 at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. She was born May 3, 1921, in Detroit, the daughter of William H. and Matilda (Dufour) Jaynes. She enjoyed leading Girl Scout troops. On July 20, 1940, she married Milton Jack McGee, and he preceded her in death on February 17, 2005. She is survived by 2 daughters; Jacqueline (Hardy) Williams of Ann Arbor (formerly of Stockbridge), Joan (Jack) Hadley of Gregory; 1 sister, Irene Lubig of Brighton; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by 1 son, James Elmer McGee and 1 grandson Kevin McGee, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Age 73 passed away Sunday April 10, 2005 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born July 8, 1931 in Putnam Twp, the son of Bruce and Caroline (Wallace) Van Blaircum. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the Military Police for the Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Pinckney. He enjoyed playing cards and gardening, and serving as the cook at deer camp. On July 16, 1993 he married Sundra A. Cashin and she survives. He is also survived by his children; Caroline (Ed) Teachout of Gregory, MI, Gloria (Mikeus) Surgenor of Inman, SC, Bill Van Blaircum of Redford, MI, Annie Tillman, Pinckney, David (Isabelle) Cashin of Pinckney, MI; 2 sisters, Anna Hoover of Chelsea and Betty Crockett of Gregory; 2 brothers; Bruce (Florence) Van Blaircum of Pinckney and Bob Van Blaircum of Gregory; Mother-in-law Ann Cashin of Pinckney; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grand daughter, Alexandria. 4 sisters in law; Sharon Carpenter, Barb (Dale) Yoakum, Marianne (Jim) Douglas, Debbie Adair; 2 brothers in law, John Cashin and Ric Cashin; His 2 special dogs Bozo and Spunky. Age 88 passed away at the Chelsea Retirement Community on Sunday, April 10, 2005. He was born the son of Grover C. and Claribel (Glass) Colby on June 6, 1916. On October 24, 1942 he married Marilyn (Burzan) and she preceded him in death in 1981. Jr enjoyed hunting deer, fox and especially coyote. His greatest passion was his CB radio and talking to his many friends all around the world, his handle was 999 Grover. He is survived by his two children, Alvin (Sharon) Colby of Auburn, Indiana and Mary (Dave) Schrotenboer of Chelsea; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Veronica) Bradbury, April Colby, Kyle Schrotenboer, Shawn Schrotenboer; and his great grandchildren, Shyla Bradbury and Makayla Kline. Also surviving are his sisters, Lucille Nelson of Asby ,MN, Orvilla (Robert) Somers of Kalamazoo, Esther (Frank) Bongiovanni of Northville, and Bessie Bongiovanni of Brighton. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son Leonard Colby, one sister Doris Thorne, and one nephew Paul Thorne. Melvin had lived and worked in the area all his life. He enjoyed woodworking, polishing stones and making jewelry. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and member of the Mackinder-Glenn American Legion Post 510 of Stockbridge. Surviving are 2 children, Warren and Bonnie Richmond both of Gregory, three brothers, Norman (Marian) Richmond of Jackson, Jack (Doris) Richmond of Gregory, and Earl Richmond of Florida, two grandchildren, Arthur Richmond and Stefanie Richmond. He was preceded in death by his wife Aletha Richmond, and two brothers, Hugh and Francis Richmond. Age 72, passed away April 9, 2005 at The V.A. Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He was born to Floyd and Bessie Lafferty on March 3, 1933. He married Sally Belle (Ousley) in Angola, Indiana in 1951 and she preceded him in death. Willard loved to hunt and fish and he attended Mt. Olive Old Regular Baptist Church. Willard is survived by his four children; Floyd (Kathy) Lafferty of Tecumseh, David Lafferty of Napoleon, Timothy Lafferty of Napoleon, and Willard (Anna) Lafferty Jr. of Rocky Mountain, NC. Andor ’Andy ’ Lindberg

Age 84 died at his home on April 8, 2005. He was born the son of Adolph N. and Clara M. (Moe) Lindberg on June 29, 1920. On June 7, 1947 he married Marian L. (Cobb) and she survives. Andy lived in Stockbridge for 53 years where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and working in his orchard on the farm. He was a veteran of the US Army and after his discharge, he owned the C and L Home and Auto supply store in Stockbridge and also retired form the State of Michigan as a corrections officer. Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children; Martin Lindberg, Steven Lindberg, and Teresa (Rusty) Benmark as well as, three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Myrtle Mulcahy, Bernice Rhode, Pearl Moberg, Earl Lindberg, Alfton Lindberg, Vivian Lindberg, and his infant brother Calvin Lindberg. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Stockbridge with Rev. Brian D. Johnson officiating. Age 72, passed away April 4, 2005 in Lansing. She was born August 1, 1932 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of Irvin and Tinnie (Whitaker) Fletcher. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. She was a charter member of the Stockbridge Church of Christ. On September 6, 1952, she married Luther J. Horn in Stockbridge, and he survives. She is also survived by her children, Tony Horn of Mesick, Trish Horn of Dansville, Vicky (Bill) Luppo of Jackson, and Phillip Horn of Mesick; 1 sister Margie Allen of Stockbridge and 4 grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Willard Fletcher, and Alfred Fletcher, sister Ernestine Whitaker, an infant child. A lifelong resident of Stockbridge passed away April 3, 2005 under the loving care of his family and hospice at the age of 89. He is survived by his 2 sons, Lawrence Asquith of Stockbridge and Jerry Asquith of Jackson; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and special friend Bertha Cole of Stockbridge. He was preceded in death by his wife Lavonda (Lawrence), his daughter Rose Ann (Lantis, Lake), his son John E. Asquith, his brother Elwin Asquith, an infant brother and his parents Alfred and Margaret (Bolton) Asquith. Vernon was a farmer and truck driver. He enjoyed riding in rodeos and being a pickup man. In 1951 he won the State Championship Calf Roping title. He also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Age 43, died Saturday April 2, 2005 at his home. He was born on September 25, 1961 in Ann Arbor, Michigan the son of Carroll ’JR’ and Linda (Howard) Clark. Kevin had graduated from Chelsea High School in 1979. He enjoyed watching movies, reading the bible, Shooting, and driving with his special friend Keith. A member of the Masonic Lodge of Chelsea and worked for Jiffy Milling company as a truck driver since 1987. On May 17, 1986 he married Lisa H. Stephens in Chelsea and she survives, also surviving are his parents of Stockbridge, one sister, Judy (Steve) Shepherd of Grass Lake, Father and mother-in-law Peter and Laine Stephens, of Hayes, Virginia, one sister-in-law Laura (Kevin) Brady of Texas, one niece Lisa (Wally)Steinaway and one nephew Steven Shepherd. Funeral services will be Thursday April 7, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Chelsea with Rev. Karen Schulte officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge.
