Douglas E. McKim
of Stockbridge, MI

Age 83 passed away at his farm surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Lloyd and Margaret (Lamb) McKim on September 28, 1924 in Stockbridge, Michigan. On September 1, 1943 he married Arlene Freiermuth and she survives. Doug was very proud of his farm and he loved farming and his antique tractor. He also enjoyed working as a community leader for Happy Hustlers 4-H. He also enjoyed serving as Supervisor of Stockbridge Township, being a Board member of Federal Land Bank, and being a Session Member of Vantown Community Church where he was a member for several years. Most of all he loved his family especially his grand children and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Sue (Michael) Barbour of Manchester, MA, Becky (Jeral) Whitaker of Stockbridge; grandchildren Kurt and Brent Barbour and Jason, Ryan and Nancy Whitaker as well as eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Hester Fillmore of Stockbridge and Ellie Breniser of Gregory. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Nancy McKim-Collins and one brother Gordon Topping. Funeral services will be Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:00 at the Caskey-Mitchell funeral home with Pastor Terry Turner officiating. Alan Dalton
Of Chelsea Mi.
Age 47, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 . Alan was born October 30, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan the son of William and Jessica (Isrow) Dalton. He had lived in the Chelsea area most of his life, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1977. He was an excellent carpenter, and owned Dalton Construction Company in Chelsea. Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and golf. He was a member of the North Lake United Methodist Church, as well as the Inverness Country Club. On July 24, 1982 he married Pamela A. Stephens, and she survives along with their child Cody, his father William (Betty) Dalton of Ocala, FL and his Mother Jessica (James) Baughn of Milan, two brothers Scott Dalton of Marysville, MI and Eric (Janette) Dalton of Saline, several nieces and nephews, cousins, as well as many good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by one brother Mark Dalton, and his grandparents. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell funeral home. Willard Marshall

Age 80 passed away at Foote Hospital on September 24, 2007. He was born the son of Franklin and Elvie (Patton) Marshall on June 13, 1927 in Royalton, Kentucky. On November 10, 1951 he married Jessie M. Hensley in Jefferson, WI and she survives. Willard loved the outdoors hunting, growing vegetables in his garden and taking care of his lawn. He was also a loving father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Cathy (Jim) Albert of Jackson, Rita M. Marshall of Pleasant Lake; brothers Arnold Marshall of Napoleon, Edward Marshall of Morenci; grandson Stephen (Elizabeth) Nazaruk, great grandchildren Giordan and Kailey Nazaruk and Kassi Kapuga as well as many nieces and nephews. Willard was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice Arnett; brothers Charlie, Robert David and Daniel as well as his daughter Phyllis Marshall. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Caskey-Mithcell funeral home at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sam Steadman officiating. Donald C. Eder
Of Chelsea, Michigan

Age 79, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at his home. He was born on November 20, 1927 in Chelsea, Michigan the son of John and Meta (Hinderer) Eder. Don was a Chelsea resident his entire life and a graduate of Chelsea High School. He served in the army during the Korean War as an aviation engineer. He was a life long builder in the Chelsea Area, where he was one of the founding owners of Chelsea Associated Builders, Inc., retiring after 36 years. He enjoyed playing bridge, working in his garden and yard, and deer hunting. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church his entire life. On April 25, 1953 he married Loretta Lindauer, and she survives. Also surviving are his daughter Angeline Eder of Bardstown, KY and son Doug (Marleyn) Eder of Chelsea; one brother John (Sally) Eder of Ann Arbor, and two sisters Elaine Durham of Seattle, WA, and Katherine (James) Schneider of Colorado; one grandson Adrian Eder, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Wilhelmina Eder, and sister Mary Jane Dettling. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. The family will receive friends at the STAFFAN-MITCHELL FUNERAL HOME, Chelsea on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with Rosary at 7:30 p.m., visitation also at the church on Tues. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Janice Elliott

Age 60, passed away Friday September 21, 2007 at Foote Hospital in Jackson. She was born on November 3, 1946 in Garrett, Kentucky the daughter of Woodrow and Artie (Wallen) Patrick. Janice had lived in the area since 1953 coming from Kentucky. She enjoyed Bingo, her computer, playing cards, family history and listening to the police scanner. On October 15, 1966 she married Jimmie ’Bud’ Elliott in Stockbridge, and he survives, also surviving are her brothers and sisters: Jeanette (Wes) Gipe of Munith, Jerry (Pam) Patrick of Jackson, Leonard (Linda) Patrick of Litchfield, Bert Phelan of Grass Lake, Glessie (Garlen) Warrens of Munith, Bob (Sharon) Patrick of Clarkston, and Tessie Warrens of Munith; 33 nieces and nephews, 40 great- nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 infant brother Terry Patrick and 1 brother-in-law Farlen Warrens. Funeral services will be Monday September 24, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge with Rev. Robert Castle officiating. Ruby Jean Castle
Of Stockbridge, MI

Age, 78 passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007 at the Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan. She was born on July15,1929 in Pyramid, Kentucky the daughter of George and Cinda (Morgan) Castle. On January 24, 1946 she married Mr. Cornealius and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2003. Mrs. Castle had lived in the area since the mid 1940’s coming from Kentucky. She enjoyed shopping and going fishing. Surviving are four children, Henry (Joyce) Castle of Mason, Cornealius (Debbie) Castle of Leslie, Darlene Castle of Stockbridge, and Kathy (Clyde) Wakefield of Mason. One son in law George Shepherd of Marshall; three brothers, Elbert (Nadine) Castle of Holt, Ballard (Lizzie) Castle of Munith and Kelly (Tresie) Castle of Stockbridge; one sister Marianne Griffith of Mason. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren which she loved and cherished each one. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Alma Jean Castle, and Alice Jean Shepherd, one grandson Jason Shepherd. Larry M. Winnie Sr.

Age 51, passed away Tuesday September 18, 2007. He was born on February 27, 1956 in Stockbridge ,Michigan the son of Wilson and Margaret (Elliott) Winnie. Larry enjoyed working outside, and country music. He was a heavy duty equipment operator for several years working for several constructions company’s in the area. Surviving are two children, Jenny Stone of Parma, and Larry Jr. Winnie of Leslie. Three brothers, Lee (Linda) Winnie of Stockbridge, Terry (Vicki) Winnie of Stockbridge, and Melvin Winnie of Charlotte. Two sisters, Sandra (Randy) Blanchard of Stockbridge, and Linda Winnie of Tompkins Center. Five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 2:00 P.M at the Good Shepherd Mission, Stockbridge with parson Billy Allen officiating. Lynn M. Hodder
Of Gregory, MI

Age 60 passed away at McPherson Hospital in Howell on September 16, 2007 surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of William and Delores (Leonard) Pierson on July 26, 1947 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. On January 27, 1968 she married Ronald R. Hodder and he survives. Lynn was known as a hard worker, great teacher and a wonderful mother and grandmother that never missed a school activity. She was also known as a very charitable person putting the needs and wants of others before her own. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her sons Ryan (Lorri) Hodder of Macomb and Randy (Michelle) Hodder of Stockbridge; granddaughter Abby Hodder. Also surviving are her brothers William (Pam) Pierson of Garden City and Richard Pierson of Charlevoix. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother Mark Pierson. A Memorial service will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Caskey-Mitchell funeral home with the Rev. Fr. William Wegher officiating. Joseph G. Cousino
Of Stockbridge, MI

Joseph Grant Cousino, age 74 died September 15, 2007. He was born November 16, 1932 in Temperance, Michigan the son of Arnold J. and Elizabeth A. (Baum) Cousino. On November 8, 1958 he married Mary E. Adams and she preceded him in death in 1997. Joe lived in the Stockbridge area most his life. He worked on several area farms, the railroad, shop work and as a car salesman for the Stephens Auto Plus in Munith. Joe enjoyed country music, hunting, fishing, helping others and above all else his family. He was well liked and had many friends. Joe is survived by his girlfriend of eight years Gloria J. Lawhead of Stockbridge; three daughters Diane Cousino of Jerome, Darlene (Tim) Risner of Napoleon, Debra (Lucky) Brown of Jackson; five grandchildren Kristopher, Brendon, Tessa Risner, Gregg and Heather Brown. Also surviving are his brothers and sister John Cousino of Petersburgh, Beaulah Whitman of Stockbridge, Sidney Cousino of Petersburgh, Carlton Cousino of Adrian, Tom Cousino of Petersburgh, and Keith Cousino of Petersburgh; and Gloria’s children and grandchildren whom he loved as much as his own. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Donald, Ernest and Elton Cousino and one sister Ellen Mcclure. Joan C. (Oakley) Strahan
of Munith, MI

Age 70 passed away at home surrounded by her family on September 14, 2007. She was born the daughter of Neil and Roberta I. (Yocum) Oakley on March 10, 1937 in Stockbridge, Michigan. She was known to all as being a loving grandmother that loved life as much as her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, casinos, playing computer games and reading the Legal Eagle. On December 31, 1966 in Michigan Center she married Charles D. Strahan and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Rene (Dan) Shepherd of Grass Lake, Lori Butler of Munith, Bret (Christine) Butler of Oxford, MI and Fawn (George) Buckland of Jackson. Also surviving are her sisters Lila (Laurence) Long, Janet Nott, Joyce (Wilkie) Fletcher, Bonnie Patrick all of Stockbridge, and many nieces nephews and cousins survive as well. Joan was preceded in death by one brother Robert Oakley, and one sister Betty Reynolds and her first husband Joseph Butler. Leroy Miller

Passed away September 3, 2007, at his home in Royal Palm Beach with his family present. Leroy was born in Richmond, Indiana, he moved to West Palm Beach in 1972. Leroy was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Leroy worked in security for several years in Palm Beach County. Leroy enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching and walking on the beach and listening to his music. Leroy was proceeded in death by his wives, Patricia Miller and Ann Miller, also two sons, James and Ronnie Dale. He leaves behind six sons, Terry Miller of Lompoc, California, Mike Miller of Lake Worth, David Miller of Chelsea, MI., Robert Miller of Okeechobee, Rickey Woodward of Pendleton, IN., and Bryon Close of Richmond, IN. Leroy leaves behind four daughters, Rosemary Petty of Grass Lake, MI, Anita Lamb of Brooklyn, MI.,Kathy Perry of Royal Palm Beach, and Kitty Ramsey of Melbourne, FL. Leroy was a grandfather to thirty three, a great grandfather to fourteen, and a great grandfather to three. Leroy will be missed by all his children and extended family (the Rice children). Age 65 passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the University Of Michigan Hospital after an extended illness. He was born on February 8, 1942 in Magoffin County Kentucky, the son of Ernest and Opal (Dyer) Williams. Doug had lived in the Chelsea and Stockbridge area since he was Nine years old, coming from Kentucky. He was a self employed painter and belonged to the Ann Arbor Moose lodge, he also enjoyed trap shooting and cherished his grandchildren. On October 3, 1964 he married Carol A. Price And she survives, also surviving are three children, Kim (Jerry) Pace of Stockbridge, Shelley (Jason) Hatt of FL., and Steve Williams of Chelsea. Four brothers, Paul (Pauline) Williams Stockbridge, Densel (Judy) Williams of Jackson Edsel Williams of Stockbridge, and Adrian Williams of Stockbridge. Five sisters, Wilma Jean Fletcher of Stockbridge, Detta (Joe) Kelly of Stockbridge, Sue Bradley of Mason, Lena (Tom) Nottingham of California, and Delores Williams of AZ. Sandra Damm
Age 54, passed away peacefully Friday, August 31, 2007, at her home. Sandra, a 1970 graduate of Dickson High School, lived in the Michigan area since coming from Tennessee in 2000. She enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with her husband Roger W. Damm who she married on February 16, 2003 and he survives. Also surviving are three sons, Bill Prater, Paul and Patrick Damm and a daughter Laura Damm, all of Chelsea; her mother, Melba Norman of Dickson, TN; sister Mellenee Finger of Cincinnati, OH; brothers Malcolm Dickson of Nashville, TN; and Barry Dickson of Dickson, TN; three grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Malcolm Dickson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea. Age 52 passed away at her home surrounded by her family on September 1, 2007. She was born the daughter of Herb and Helen (Williams) Starnes on March 24, 1955 in Maumee, Ohio. On June 5, 1993 she married Jeff S. Barnett and he survives. Helen was known to all as a very hard worker. She enjoyed working outside in her yard and planting Roses, doing house projects, playing Bingo, cards and going shopping. Most of all she loved being with her family especially for the big family dinners. In addition to her husband and her parents, she is survived by her children Rob (Stephanie) Shepherd of Stockbridge, Daniel Shepherd of Dansville and Laurie Shepherd of Dansville; grandchildren Amanda, Alex, Tessa Kellie and Joey. Doris J. Young
of Stockbridge, MI
Age 91 passed away at her home in Stockbridge on August 31, 2007. She was born the daughter of James Herbert and Frances Marie (Farmer) on September 14, 1915 in Stockbridge, MI. On March 8, 1951 she married her second husband Max Young and he preceded her in death. Doris was the oldest living member of the Stockbridge First Presbyterian Church where her parents were charter members. She was known for her coffee cakes, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream and loved anything sweet, especially chocolate from her special friend Johnny Love. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and taking her entire family to Mackinac for a 4th of July party every year. Faith, family and friends were most important to Doris. She is survived by her son Charles (Joan) Bumpus of Stockbridge, daughter-in-laws Janell Bumpus of Jackson, Janet Bumpus of Wausau, WI and a step daughter Markeita (Jack) Long of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are her grandchildren Carrie (Tim) Johnson of Stockbridge, Tracy Bumpus of Stockbridge, Amy (Mike) West of Jackson, Tammy (Kevin) Basore of Stockbridge, Chuck Bumpus Jr. of Stockbridge, Janeen (Bill) Bush of Jackson, Thomas (Sherrie) Bumpus of Ypsilanti, Joel (Melissa) Bumpus of Washington State, and Jodi (Shaun) Morgan of Steamboat Springs, CO, as well as 14 great grandchildren, niece Susan (Andy) Howard of traverse City and nephew John (Sherri) Mason of Hamilton MA and special friends Al and Darlene Davis. Doris was preceded in death by her sons Thomas and Robert Bumpus and her sisters Marie Powell and Marion Mason.
