Orla Sheathelm
Of Dansville, MI.

Age 98, passed away Sunday July 27, 2008 at Country Heritage Adult Care in Dansville. He was born on December 29, 1909 in White Oak Township the son of Henry and Emma (Howell) Sheathelm. Orla lived in the Dansville area all his life and was an active farmer for many years. He was one of the oldest members of the Millville United Methodist Church.
He loved to travel, plant trees, cut wood and work in his garden. He spent a lifetime planting and nurturing trees - maintaining the philosophy of planting a tree for each one removed. His efforts have resulted in farmland woodlots full of trees along with bulbs and shrubs he also planted. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and that he loved to work! Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Thompson of South Haven; Janice (John) Smith of Hartford; Cheryl (Charles) Tobey of Battle Creek and Mary Mangles of Dansville; three sons, Harold (Laurene) Sheathelm; Dorwin (Kathy) Sheathelm and David (Karen) Sheathelm all of Dansville; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; also one sister June Stover of Williamston as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel (Thayer), and second wife, Wilma (Neu), two sisters, Dortha Walker and Gladys Warfle, one daughter-in-law, Roberta Sheathelm, one granddaughter, Kristen Thompson, and two grandsons, James Thompson and Carl Tobey. Funeral services will be Thursday July 31, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Millville United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Freysinger officiating. Burial will follow at Dansville Fairview Cemetery. Of Pinckney, Mi

Age 47, died Saturday July 26, 2008 at the University of Michigan Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1960 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania the son of Earl and Shirley (Silsey) King Sr. Eugene had lived in the area for the past 30 years and was a carpenter employed by the Local Union 687 of Detroit. He enjoyed mud bogging and was the president and founding member
of the Gregory Mudders. Football, hunting, fishing, and NASCAR he truly loved. On July 14, 1990 he married Lori Ann Tipper in Pinckney, and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Jennifer (Oscar) Jurado of Chicago, and Jeremy King of Pinckney; his mother, of Pinckney, one brother, Scott (Kim) King, of Dearborn, two sisters, Beverly (Jeffrey) Carr, of Ypsilanti, and Kerry (Don) Kernicky of Pinckney; one granddaughter, Selena Jurado, and two sisters-in-law, Margie Tipper of Allen Park, and Ronda Brown, of Jackson. Also one brother-in-law, Jeff Tipper, of Saginaw, and his mother-in-law, Jessie Tipper of Pinckney. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Eugene King Sr. infant sister, Brenda King, brother-in-law, Dwayne Tipper, and his

Wanda R. Hollister

Age 68, passed away Sunday July 27, 2008 at her home. She was born on July 17, 1940 in Ohio, the daughter of Worth and Ethel (Puckett) Stapleton. She had lived in the are since 1992 coming from Texas. Animals, raising parrot, gardening going out to eat, and country music she loved. Surviving are two children, Charlotte Rose (Charlie Sharp) Smith and Carl (Janet) Hollister. Three sisters, Beulah Crockett of Gregory, Pauline Stapleton of Fenton and Mary Margaret Kool of Fenton. Three grandchildren in which she adored and loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hollister Sr. and one son Wade Hollister. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 30, 2008 AT 1:00 p.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home Stockbridge with Rev. Robert Castle officiating. Burial will follow at Pinckney Cemetery. Robert Stoddard Martin
Of Chelsea, Mi.

Devoted spouse, father and grandfather, Robert Stoddard (Bob) Martin, age 85, died in Chelsea, Michigan on July 23, 2008. Bob was born on Feb. 19, 1923 in Staten Island, NY, the son of Robert V.E. and Henrietta (Stoddard) Martin, the eldest of three children. Ann Martin Lambertson of Burlingame, CA survives him. His brother Stoddard Martin of Bellwood, PA predeceased him. His family moved to Webster Groves, MO in 1939. In 1940, he met Margaret (Pat) Roth through the Webster Groves Presbyterian Church where her father taught Sunday School. On August 2, 1944, they were married there. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, his children: Nancy M. (Bernard, deceased) Podurgiel of Norwich, CT, Sallie M. (Steven) Foley of Ann Arbor, MI, Martha M. (Christopher) Conner of El Cerrito, CA and David R. (Nicole) Martin of Bellaire, MI, his grandchildren: Rebecca P. Ramirez, Bernard J. Podurgiel, Debra P. Wilson and Jennifer A. Podurgiel, Jessica, Lauren, and Robert Foley, Whitaker and Margaret Martin, Bryce and Connor Chapman, and four great-grandchildren. Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army as a staff sergeant in the Philippines during WW II. His career with Caterpillar Tractor Company began in Peoria, IL, and included moves to Jacksonville, FL, Potomac, MD and St. Louis, MO. He specialized in the sales and installation of diesel power generation units. For many years, Bob was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher in the Presbyterian church. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor, an associate member of the Church in the Hills (Presbyterian), Bellaire, MI and, at the time of his passing, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chelsea. As a youth, Bob was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. His life-long love of sailing began as a Sea Scout in that organization and continued with the summer tradition of enjoying Torch Lake, Michigan. He was an active member of the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club, serving on the board of directors and as commodore. He created a curriculum and initiated a sailing school there. In retirement Bob and Pat moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he volunteered as a SCORE counselor. In 2003, they moved to Silver Maples Senior Retirement Community in Chelsea, MI. He enjoyed tennis, skiing and blacksmithing. In recent years, he volunteered each summer at YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake, a wilderness adventure camp for boys and young men. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Chelsea, 128 Park Street, Chelsea, MI on Tuesday July 29, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the "Robert S. Martin Endowment Fund" at YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha (919 N.E. Torch Lake Drive, Central Lake, MI 49622). Bob established the Hayo-Went-Ha Clean Water Fund to preserve the pristine shoreline of his beloved lake, ensuring the camp's 104 year stewardship. Shirley M. Wallo

Age 77, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at her home. She was born on May 18, 1931 in Tecumseh, Michigan the daughter of Orville and Flossie (Van Riper) Dewey. Shirley had lived and farmed in the area since 1967 when she moved from Saline. She enjoyed providing beauty and sewing services from her home and having daily coffee with her son Bob and her grandson Greg. On June 19, 1948, she married William D. Wallo, and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2006. Surviving are three children, David Wallo of Ypsilanti, Kathi (Frank Russell) Ellsworth of Williamston, and Bob (Teresa) Wallo of Gregory; six grandchildren, Dan and Don Wallo, Amanda and Scott Ellsworth, and Greg and Michelle Wallo; and two great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Dewey of Georgia, and Fred (Ruth) Falk of Battle Creek; two sisters, Dorothy Falk of Holly and Jean (George) Kemph of Tecumseh. Age 38 passed away unexpectedly on Friday July 18, 2008. He was born the son of Marvin and Lenea (Cole) Risner on March 13, 1970 in Jackson, Michigan. Gary loved to joke with his friends and family. He enjoyed playing cards and his music. Most of all he loved his family. Gary is survived by his parents; Brother Ronald (Vickie) Risner of Salyersville, KY, sister Tina Hayes of Jackson, and sister Marsha (Jason) Burtch of Jackson. Also surviving is his nephews Austin Hayes and Brian Burtch along with his niece Abby Hayes. Eugene A. "Doc" Green

Age 81 passed away at home on July 17, 2008 he was born on July 25, 1926 in Detroit Michigan. On August 14, 1991 he married Mary Engle and she survives. Doc was always able to help or fix anything which gave him his nickname Doc. He was a very loving father and husband and a teacher and mentor to all his children. Doc loved to sing and dance whenever and wherever he could. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his children Howard Allen, Maxine (Bob) Friend, Avadine (Cleedis) Long, Virginia (Walt) Gibson, Joyce (Larry) Binschus, Phyllis (Tom) Hengesbough, Donnie (Lucinda) Allen, Brenda Minix, Russell (Tracey) Strong all of Jackson, Julia Lazarus of Dayton, OH, Kimi (Tom) Strong, Janel Strong both of Jackson. Age 87, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Bortz Health Care Center in Ypsilanti. He was born Sept. 25, 1920 in Williamsville, the son of the late John and Martha Cowan Mosier. He married Idell Esther Roden, and they were married over fifty years. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2006. Dewitt is survived by two sons, John and Paul Mosier, both of England, three step-daughters, Violet (Harvey) Morrell of Stockbridge, Rosemary (Richard) Thibault of Iron Mountain, Troline (Edward) Dupule, of Taylor, and one sister, Opal Ray Childs of Poplar Bluff, MO, and several grandchildren. He worked as a Timber Harvester for the Forestry Dept., and he enjoyed fishing. Funeral services were held July 12, 2008, at Ruegg Funeral Home in Missouri. Rev. Nathan Aubuchon officiated. Gene Bilbrey, Larry Steward, Don Greer, John, Chris, and Clyde Mosier served as pallbearers. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Williamsville. Gertrude A. Pototzki
of Chelsea, Michigan
Gert passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 at age 90, in her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born on March 29, 1918 in Kleinkrotzenburg, Germany. She immigrated to New York in 1924 and married Franz Pototzki in 1941. She and Franz moved to Chelsea to be with her daughter and family in 1982. She enjoyed becoming a part of the local community and was an active member of the Chelsea Senior Citizens Center. She participated in a wide range of activities including the kitchen band, china painting, and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband Franz Pototzki and close friend Sid White. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Penna, daughter Carol Strahler, son-in-law John, and grandsons Erik and Christopher (Emily Leidner). According to her wishes she will be cremated and interred in Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Great Lakes Hospice who helped her through her final days. Age 87, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She was born on March 2, 1921 in Webberville, Michigan the daughter of Howard and Agnes (McFarland) Wainright. Eunice and her first husband, Wayne, were Co-owners of the Millville Store since 1946, purchasing the store from the Wilcox family. She was a former member of the Millville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was involved in United Methodist Women. She was also a former White Oak Township Elections Day Board Committee participant, as well as past secretary for the North West Stockbridge Cemetery and the Extension Club. She was a member of Vantown Community Church and enjoyed sewing, knitting, yard work, gardening, crosswords and bird watching. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn (John) Sullivan of Lansing, Ellen (Skip) Stanton of Williamston, and Mary Lou (Gaylord) Risch of Williamston, and seven step-children; six grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Brooks, Rodney Pfiester, Brandon (Crystal) Waggoner, Derik Waggoner, Christopher Stanton, Paul (Kara) Stanton, and many step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Meranda, Jordan, Quinn, Baylee, Emily, Lily, Grant, Ava, and many step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Wayne J. Baker, Harry Daman, and Maurice Felton, one brother Raymond Wainright, one sister Alta Stowe, and one grandson, Ronald Pfiester. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Vantown Community Church with Rev. Terry Turner officiating. Age 66, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at her home. She was born on May 7, 1942 in Stockbridge, Michigan the daughter of Norman and Edna (Dewelle) Mollenkopf. Betty had lived in the area all her life and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Waterloo. She worked for the D and C Warehouse in Stockbridge for several years, then began working at Thetfords in Dexter, retiring in 2002. Watching deer, talking politics, and antiquing were her favorite pastimes. Surviving are one daughter Sharon (Jonathon) Tenney of Waterloo Twp., two sisters, Barbara (Lorry) Huested of Newaygo, and Bonnie (Jack) Flood of Lansing; one brother-in-law Richard Lambert, of Haslett; and two grandchildren, Olivia Tenney and Mitchell Tenney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herchell B. Craft, one daughter Carren L. Koski, and one sister Shirley Lambert. Age 56 passed away at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor on July 8, 2008. He was born the son of Max and Marjorie Hepburn on July 3, 1952 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On July 10, 1982 in Chelsea, Mi he married Patricia Hepburn and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Samantha A. Hepburn and Max R. Hepburn along with his brothers and sisters Cindy (Bill) Harris of Chelsea, Tom (Teresa) Hepburn of Swartz Creek, Nancy (Dick) Loftis of East Jackson, Alison (George) Trevino of Chelsea; many nieces and nephews and his mother. John was preceded in death by his father Max Hepburn and a brother Philip Hepburn. John was employed at the University of Michigan and retired after 25 years of service. John was a nature lover and enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing for anything that would bite his line and he enjoyed all his dogs. Most of all he loved his children and all of their activities. The family will receive friends at the Congregational Church in Chelsea from 11:00 until the hour of service. A Memorial service will be held on July 18, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Joan passed away Friday July 4, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital of Howell, at age 90. She was born on February 14, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of John and Mary (Tucker) Haines. Joan had lived in the area since 1945. She enjoyed sewing, square dancing, traveling, gardening, interior decorating, and shopping till you drop. Surviving are four children, Dennis (Jackie) Boos of Chelsea, Tim (Rose) Boos of Stockbridge, Tom (Linda) Boos of Stockbridge, and Joe Wilkerson of Grass Lake, one daughter in law, Dory Boos of Mason, two step sons Dave Olson of Hawaii, and John Olson of California, one sister in law, Betty Haines of Redford, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry W. Boos and her second husband as well, F. Norm Olson Jr., one son Paige Boos, one brother Johnny Haines, one granddaughter Laurie Boos, one grandson Todd Boos, and one daughter in law Sue Wilkerson. Age 77, passed away Saturday evening June 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township. He was born on January 1, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Frank and Blanche (Mellor) Hanna. Ernie had worked for Ford Motor Company for 38 years and retired as a superintendent. A veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy. He enjoyed sailing. reading, and history. On September 11, 1954 he married Sylvia A. Bourque and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Michelle (Garland) Scott of Grass Lake, and Mark (Dawn) Hanna of Onsted. Four grandchildren, Christine and Ryan Koch, and Stephanie and Jenine Hanna. One sister–in-law Loretta Hanna of California, and one brother in law Robert Schuab. He was preceded in death by one son, Edward Hanna and one sister Barbara Schuab. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Pastor Leland Jordan officiating.
