Maurice Eugene Price


of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 86, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was born on November 6, 1922 in Stockbridge, the son of Ord and Edith (Daugherty) Price. He attended McKenze Country School for eight years and then graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1940. Upon graduation he went into the auction business with his father who was an auctioneer for a number of years. Mr. Price passed away in 1952 and Maurice was joined in the auction business by his two brothers, Robert and Richard. Maurice was an auctioneer for 60 years. He was part-owner in Price Tractor and Implement Co. and also helped to organize the Price Brothers Band which played for wedding receptions, anniversaries, and other social affairs. He is a past president of Michigan State Auctioneers Association and also served two terms on the board of directors. Maurice was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church. Maurice was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert in 1998 and Richard in July of 2004. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Audrey Price of Stockbridge; his nephews, Robert Price of San Clemente, CA, Ben of Stockbridge, and Ted of San Francisco; his nieces, Edith Lindeburg of Parker, CO and Leeanne Cubberly of Stockbridge; and also his cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home with Parson Billy Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Kristina Louise Matyzius

of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 36, died at the Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson on Thursday, June 25, 2009 from a rare form of inflammatory breast cancer. She was born on February 16, 1973 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Albert and Nancy (Trapp) Matyzius. Kristina loved shopping and crafts, especially making jewelry from beads. She lived in Stockbridge her entire life and was a member of Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church. In addition to her parents she is survived by her children, Michael Sercombe (age 9) and Megan Matyzius (age 2 1/2), her sister, Dawn Matyzius, and her god-mother, Gabriele Mikelonis. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. from Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church in Leslie with the Rev. Michael A. Petroski officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for Kristina's children. Frederick Marvin Streets


of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 81, passed away Wednesday December 3, 2008 at Florida Hospital, Zephyrhills, Florida. He was born on April 26, 1927 in Alger, Ohio. Fred served in the United States Navy and retired from the Dancer Co. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge and Mackinder Glen Post 510. Fred is survived by his children, Judy (Tom) Taylor of Gregory, Richard (Debra) Streets of Zephyrhills, FL, Dawn (Rod) Pearson of Stockbridge, and Robin (David) Reese of Martinsville, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, and his daughter, Heather West. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home with Shannon O'Leary officiating. Delphine E. Erickson


Del Erickson, of Chelsea, Michigan, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born on April 7, 1912 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, the daughter of Michael and Zelfrieda (Crotteau) DeMers. Del enjoyed bowling, playing cards, sewing, and crocheting, and was a member of St. Mary Altar Society. She was a 25-year employee of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She suffered a stroke early in her retirement and had been a resident at Chelsea Retirement Community since then. She is survived by her children, Diane Lindwall of San Diego, CA and Rosalie Hasenfus of Boothbay Harbor, ME; son-in-law, Mike Sweet of Chelsea; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother, William G. DeMers of Mountain View, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jeanette "Jan" Sweet; and her granddaughter, Julie Proctor. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Frank G. England


of Jackson, Michigan, age 70, passed away on May 9, 2009 at home under the loving care of his family and Allegiance Hospice. He was born to B.H. and Bessie (Hopkins) England on December 27, 1938 in Salyersville, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia E. England; his son, John (Missy) England; grandchildren, Eugene (Katlyn Hoskins) England, Stephanie and Dominic England; and a great-granddaughter, Aurora England. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa England, in June 2008; his sisters, Josephine Pinks, Erma Crace, and Ethel Jordan on June 20, 2009; his brothers, Ben and Glenn England; and his parents. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill and Bob England, and sister, Mary Hodson. Frank served his country in the Marine Corps. He worked mostly at construction jobs. Frank loved bluegrass music and he played with different bands through the years. He loved his family and all his friends and they loved him very much. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. He left a note to tell his friends good-bye for him. He has been cremated and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at New Horizons Church of God, 4300 Lansing Avenue. Antoinette "Toni" Hawker


of Chelsea, Michigan, age 70, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2009 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born on September 24, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Francis and Clara Passafiume. On March 24, 1956 she married Larry Hawker in Belleville. In 1974 they moved their family to Chelsea. Toni retired from the Chelsea School District in 1997 after 21 years as the district's payroll secretary. Her family was her life. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry; her four children: Lori (Robert) Mitchell of Roscommon, Tracy Santure of Saline, Steven (Chris) Hawker of Napoleon, and Kelly (Tom) Hickey of Saline; and nine grandchildren: Michael, Jacob, Stephanie, Jenna, Kelsey, Tommy, Jessica, Megan, and Alyssa. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Schroeder officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Jane Marie (Haselschwardt) Bailey

Born February 27, 1953, passed away on June 22, 2009. She grew up in Chelsea, Michigan, earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Michigan State University, and embarked on her career in public education teaching English and reading at Petoskey High School. She went on to serve as high school principal in Alanson and Harbor Springs, staff development coordinator at the Char-Em Intermediate School District, and director for curriculum and staff development at the Petoskey Public Schools, from which she retired in 2008. She was a nationally known education consultant and co-author of two books on education.

Jane was admired by many as a role model and mentor, and loved by many as a friend. She left the world a better place because of her passion for public education and her commitment to excellence in teaching. Her family and many friends were richly blessed by her care and concern for others, her lively sense of humor, her kindness and warmth. She provided great inspiration to all of her family and friends as she met the challenges of her illness with grace, dignity, strength and boundless courage.

She was devoted to her family and is survived by her son, John, and her husband of 32 years, Tom, of Petoskey; her parents, Agnes and Howard Haselschwardt of Chelsea; sisters, Jeanne (Darryl) Christensen of Dexter, Elizabeth Haselschwardt (Tim Reed) of Kalamazoo, and Sarah Haselschwardt (Fred Vasquez) of Chelsea; brother, Howard (Sarah) Haselschwardt of Charlevoix; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Funeral mass will be held at Holy Childhood of Jesus Church in Harbor Springs, Michigan on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception immediately following at the Petoskey High School. There will also be a reception at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea on Monday, June 29, at 1:00 p.m.

Levena Allen


of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 77, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at her home. She was born on July 9, 1931 in Salyersville, Kentucky, the daughter of Morgan and Flora (Craft) Salyer. She married Stephen J. Allen in 1954 in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1993. Levena had lived in the Stockbridge area since 1947, coming from Salyersville. She attended the Stockbridge Church of Christ and the Good Shepherd Mission. She had worked in the onion fields as a young girl then she was employed for King Sealey and she retired from Chrysler. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, making jewelry, and garage sales, but most of all she loved Sunday dinners with her family. She is survived by her children, Ricky (Tylene) Allen of Chelsea, Stephen J. (Barbara) Allen of Leslie, David (Cheryl) Allen of Pleasant Lake, and Darvin (Lynnette) Allen of Gregory. She is also survived by her siblings, Marvin (Eileen) Salyer and Pauline (Harry) Chown, both of Jackson; brother-in-law, Bill Brown; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Burl Salyers, Willis Ray Salyers, Lillian Mae Carr, and Sue Brown. Elnora Gail Linke


of Chelsea, Michigan, age 69, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on June 19, 2009. She was born the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Hargraves) Avery on September 25, 1939 in Milan, MI. On July 6, 1957 she married James H. Linke and he survives. Gail worked as a clerk for many hospitals, including St. Joseph Hospital for 20 years, Chelsea Community Hospital for five years, and retired from the U of M Hospital after 25 years. She loved bowling and was on many leagues, including the Ypsilanti Public School and the Milan Free Methodist Church League and she loved to read anything. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and sister. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Suzette Linke of Chelsea and Sandra Linke of Chelsea. Also surviving are her siblings, Arthur (Marjory) Avery of Milan, Robert Avery of Ypsilanti, Irene (John) Jasinski of South Carolina, and Irma (Robin) McFall of Jackson, and several nieces and nephews. Gail is also survived by James' siblings, Herb (Mary) Linke, Earl Linke, and Cheryl (Dale) Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elsie May Kreager, infant brothers Theodore and Terrence, and an infant sister, Sarah Avery. Lawrence L. "Larry" Titus


of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at his home. He was born on November 12, 1938 in Vestburg, Michigan, the son of Clark W. and Eileen (Gorsuch) Titus. On December 12, 1992 he married Alice F. (Salyers) and she survives. Larry was so intelligent that he could fix or build just about anything; he was always helping someone and happy to do it. Larry loved life and having a good time. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Clark (Dawn) Titus of Munith, Debra Titus Collins of Pinckney, and Steven Titus of Harlingen, TX, and Alice's children, Chris (April) Bates and Rhonda Bates. Larry is also survived by his siblings, Dianna (Dan) Maynard, Shirryl Sanyer, Art (Phoebe) Stanley, Terry (Annette) Stanley, Dennis (Liz) Stanley, Lori Henderson, Pam (Rick) Houser, Yvonne (Larry) Brinskowski, and Linda Titus; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Homer Stanley; his first wife, Lois Titus; and his sister, Kathy Dewolf. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Jessica Jean Huling


of Jackson, formerly of Milan, Michigan, age 34, passed away at the Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Jessica was born on March 16, 1975 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth and Patricia (Hutchinson) Huling. She graduated from Milan High School in 1994. Jessica had lived in the Jackson area since 2002, moving from Ypsilanti. One of Jessica's favorite pastimes was making jewelry. She also loved going to Cedar Point. Jessica is survived by her three children, Michael Fedewa, Mercedes Fedewa, and Haley Stockwell, all of Ann Arbor; her parents, of Milan; one sister, Judy (Jack) Wright of Ypsilanti; four brothers, James Huling of Whitmore Lake, John Huling of Ann Arbor, Jerry (Donna) Huling of Jackson, and Jack Jeffery (Kelly) Huling of Whitaker; several nieces and nephews; and her companion, Tyler Branham. Mary Jo Bachman


of Stockbridge, Michigan, age 65, died June 9, 2009 at Allegiance Health in Jackson, surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of E. Donald and Jocille (Smith) Dickinson in Stockbridge, Michigan on August 20, 1943. On October 11, 1968 she married Gerald A. Bachman and he survives. Mary Jo loved the outdoors and all of God's creations. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Douglas (Christina) Carley of Tucson, AZ and Laura (Chad Dreyer) Bachman of Cadillac, as well as 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Donald (Jo) Dickinson of TN, Susan Fizer of Lowell, and Jean (David) Sweet of Stockbridge. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents and son, Bradley Bachman. Edward R. Weddon, M.D.
February 12, 1924 - June 9, 2009
of Stockbridge, MI

Dr. Weddon was preceded in death by Willah M. (Skinner), his wife of 67 years; two sisters, Phyllis Willett of Kalamazoo and Ruth Wallace of Otsego, MI; and one grandson, Nathan Todd Weddon in 1987. He is survived by one sister, Marjorie Will of Plainwell, MI. Also surviving are their five children: Todd (Carol) of Vicksburg, MI, Brad (Kim) of Huntington Beach, CA, Patrice (James K.) Johnson of Dansville, MI, Alex (Colleen D.) of Chelsea, and Amy (Terry) Tomlin of Fowlerville; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dr. Weddon earned his medical degree in 1952 from the University of Michigan and practiced family medicine in Stockbridge for over 46 years. He was one of the last physicians to make house calls in the state. He was on staff at Foote Hospital in Jackson for over 50 years. He was past-president of the Jackson County Medical Society, a long standing member of the Michigan State Medical Society, and appointed by Governor Milliken to the State Board of Medical Review in the 1970s.

A WWII veteran, medical corpsman Weddon served in the third army with General Patton and was awarded five battle stars: Normandy, North France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Weddon was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism after giving aid to a wounded U.S. soldier while under fire by German machine guns. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Stockbridge United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Edward J. Klosiewicz
of Waterloo Twp., Michigan

Age 75, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 7, 2009. He was born the son of Chester and Mary (Sadijia) Klosiewicz on May 14, 1934. On November 23, 1957, in Angola, Indiana he married Arlene M. Platts and she survives. Ed loved to fish for anything that would bite his hook. He loved good food, especially cakes, pies, and cookies. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his daughters, Patricia (John) Fritz of West Branch, Sharon (Raymond) Klosiewicz-Ameel of Waterloo, Elizabeth (Michael) Klosiewicz-Willis of Grass Lake, and Arlene (Kevin) Klosiewicz-Walz of Waterloo. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Chester (Joanne) Kloss of Roseville; brother-in-law, John Kaminiski of Hazel Park; sister-in-law, Ruth Platts of Grosse Pointe; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Duncan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Zabik, and his infant daughter, Catherine Mary. Larry V. Mayle
of Chelsea, Michigan

Age 55, passed away June 6, 2009 at his home in his wife's arms. He was born on June 14, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Victor and Lorena (Faulkiner) Mayle. Larry had lived in the area for the past 12 years and worked for Ford Motor Company for 36 years. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and cherished his grandchildren. Larry was a member of Vandercook Lake Bible Methodist Church for several years. On November 11, 1972 he married Debra Mary Kennedy and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Steve (Tanjala) Mayle of Hudson and Rebecca (Tim) Lilly of Addison; his mother of Warren; mother- and father-in-law, Meredith (Edna) Kennedy of Ypsilanti; one sister, Cheryl (Daniel) Barton of Howell; seven grandchildren; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his father and one infant granddaughter. William D. March
of Ann Arbor, Michigan

Age 57, died suddenly June 3, 2009. He was born the son of William C. and Shirley (Peters) March on October 9, 1951 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On March 27, 1976 he married Arlene R. (Zahn) and she survives. Bill was a member of Ann Arbor Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Kroger Produce Department after 15 years of service and also retired from Washtenaw County Facilities in 2004. He loved music, fishing, hunting and was a member of the NRA. Bill was very proud to be a recovering alcoholic with 26 years of sobriety. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Heidi Shantz, Stacy Rawson, and Sandra Marshall, as well as his grandchildren, Chelsea, Chandler, Chase, Austin, and Jenna. He is also survived by his siblings, Vicki Lambert, Jeffry March, and Sharilyn Sproull. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and aunt, Marie Landers. Leonard R. Edick
of Chelsea, MI

Age 69, passed away June 3, 2009 in his wife's arms. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 13, 1940, the son of the late Russell and Kitty (Wieland) Edick. Leonard served in the Air Force during the 1950s, the succeeded in a wide array of jobs, including trucking and respiratory therapy, before finding his niche selling clothing and charming customers all day. In his spare time, he pursued the arts, drumming for years and taking up drawing, as well as acting and landing a Screen Actors Guild membership. He could throw out words from the New York Times crossword puzzle and the hundreds of books he read about subjects ranging from birds to sailing. Few men could have conversations about so many topics. He loved gardening, spoiling his cat, and impressing everyone with his physical health. Leonard is survived by his best friend and wife, Tina Picano Blay. In addition, he is the Loving Father of John Edick, Kiyoko (David) Julyk, Miles Edick, Ryan Blay, and Dennis Blay; Devoted Grandpa of Noah and Madeline Julyk; and Dedicated Brother of Bob (Molly) Williamson and Rusty (Bo) Sprauer. Services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home. Alan D. Smith
of Munith, Michigan

Age 45, died at his home on June 2, 2009. He was born on December 10, 1963 in Highland Park, MI, the son of Dale H. and Delores (Hakenewerd) Smith. Alan, although taken too early in life, was a man of many accomplishments. He had helped to raise two very different and independent children and taught them many of life's lessons. Through example he taught his children that at the end of the day there was nothing more satisfying than a hard day's work. Knowing that nothing came free, Alan worked diligently to ensure that his family was taken care of. He was also a very trustworthy friend to all he chose to call his friends. Whenever called upon, Alan would be there to do as much as he could for anyone. With his kind heart and carefree attitude he was a person that many enjoyed the company of. He will surely be missed. He is survived by two children, Brittainy Smith of Manchester and Brandon Smith of Washington; siblings, Cynthia Hakenewerd of Florida, Lori Staniski of Rochester, and Roger (Janice) Smith of Warren; the mother of his children, Penny Henderson of Manchester; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ruth Cesco of Munith. He is also survived by his mother, Delores Bock of Florida, who says of her son, "This is a son that gave love to me and understanding and helped me by being a friend as well. He put joy in my heart and filled it as well with pride to be my son." He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea with Pastor Richard Holt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family.


Fred R. Winkle
of Stockbridge, MI

Age 65, died at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 2, 2009. He was born the son of Wilbur and Leona (Wardle) Winkle on November 1, 1943 in Macomb, Illinois. Fred worked for Palmer Ford where he was a great mechanic and won an award as the best Diesel Mechanic in the State of Michigan. He was also a farmer and firefighter for SAESA for many years. When he was not busy fighting fires or fixing trucks he enjoyed golfing with Kenny, Marty, Don, and Marsha every Sunday morning. Fred was a great father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Michelle (Kevin) Bingham of Inverness, FL and Peggy (Heath) Corey of Stockbridge. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Savannah, Benjamin, Nicole, and Myranda, as well as his brothers, Robert (Donna) Winkle of Ypsilanti and Wilbur P. (LuAnne) Winkle Jr. of Ypsilanti. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
