Amanda J. Romano


Amanda Jayne Romano of Stockbridge, MI, age 22, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in Jackson. She was born on June 4, 1987 in Dearborn, MI. Amanda was very outgoing and loved people. She enjoyed photography and animals, especially dogs. She is survived by her parents, David Romano of Kingman, AZ and Jane E. (Yerex) Brown of Speedway, IN; her sisters, Nicole (Clark) Clear and Michelle (James) Pidd, both of Stockbridge; her aunts and uncles, David (Rene) Yerex of Garden City, Patricia (Curtis) Hay of Taylor, Linda (Michael) Williams of Royal Oak, Tony Romano of Florida, Ann (Dean Fahey) Romano of Dunedin, FL, and Fallon (Ryan) Romano-Dudek of Clarkston; her nieces and nephews, Kaitlin, Nathan, Kara, Cole, and Kathryn; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Angelo V. Romano. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Highest Praise Worship Center, 5107 S. Clinton St., Stockbridge with Bishop Jeffrey S. Lambert and Pastor Dan Roberts co-officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Frances Wetmore

Frances A. "Fran" Wetmore of Jackson, MI, age 78, passed away at home on Monday, March 29, 2010. She was born March 29, 1932 in Canada (Wescott, Alberta), the daughter of Elmer and Francis (Giroux) Damoth. She married Richard D. Wetmore in June 1976 and he preceded her in death. Fran enjoyed knitting and arts and crafts. Fran is survived by her daughters and son, Robyn Jenks and Sandra (Richard) Barrett, both of Jackson, Christine Childs of Hanover, and Kevin Schweikert of Kalamazoo; two step-children, Richard (Bonnie) Wetmore of Pleasant Lake and Timothy (Michelle) Wetmore of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Penny Sue Crandell. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 1:00 at Eldon Katz Elementary School, 11120 Musbach Road, Munith, MI 49259. Dr. Floyd M. "Buck" Lindquist


Dr. Floyd M. "Buck" Lindquist of Gregory, MI, age 71 passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 in Jackson. He was born the son of Floyd and Norma (Schnuphase) Lindquist Sr. on June 19, 1938 in Detroit, MI. Buck Loved animals of all types, especially horses, training and owning race horses. He was a graduate of Michigan State Veterinary School and was the owner of the Stockbridge Animal Clinic. Buck is survived by his children, Karin (Phillip) Kenewell of Chelsea and Ron (Lisa) Lindquist of Gregory; his grandchildren, Ryan Lindquist, Josh Watko, Jessica Lindquist, Jamie Lindquist, and Jeffrey Watko; as well as his brothers-in-law, Jim Kirchner and Carl Oehling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, June Kirchner and Lavina Oehling. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 1, 2010 from the Gregory Community Church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Heidi DeMott Shanes officiating. Aaron R. Schroeder


Aaron R. Schroeder of Stockbridge, MI, age 23, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 in Chelsea. He was born on May 16, 1986 in Ann Arbor, the son of Michael C. and Margaret O. (Stratton) Schroeder. Aaron had lived in the area all his life. He loved football, baseball, music, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. Most of all he was a loving son and brother who will be deeply missed by all. In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, Steven and Nicholas; his maternal grandparents, Judy (Larry) Williams of Milan and Joe Stratton of Chelsea, and his paternal grandparents, Walter (Dorothy) Schroeder of Sun City, CA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Theresa. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti. Mary Lou Hurd

Mary Lou Hurd of Munith, formerly of Chelsea, MI, age 66, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the University of Michigan Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. Mary was born in Pontiac, MI on January 17, 1944, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Pinkerman) McLaughlin. She had lived in Munith for the past six years and had been a long-time resident of Chelsea. She loved remodeling her farm, gardening, and taking care of her horses, goats, cats, and dogs, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She had previously worked as a substitute teacher for Chelsea Public Schools and as a teacher of special needs children at Aptos High School in Aptos, CA. On June 6, 1964, she married John D. Hurd and he survives. Also surviving are their three children, Lisa (Mark) Schulte of Connecticut, Chandra Hurd of Dexter, and Clayton Hurd of Ft. Collins, CO; two grandchildren, Adam and Drew Gochanour of Dexter; one sister Vicki (Brian) Woolcock of Stockbridge; one brother, Dick (Sharon) McLaughlin of Tecumseh; her mother-in-law, Esther Fortier of Chelsea; her brother-in-law, Richard (Denise) Hurd of Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Mary (Lance) Fleming of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents. A celebration of Mary's life will take place at their farm in Munith on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter or horse rescue organization of one's choice. Joseph Paul Haroney


Joseph Paul Haroney of Nashville, Tennessee, age 46, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born June 21, 1963 in Detroit, MI the son of Vincent and Patricia (Bacik) Haroney. He had lived in the Nashville area for the past 20 years. He had worked as a skilled carpenter and welder. He enjoyed his aquariums, gardening, and was an avid swimmer. He is survived by his parents of Farmington; a son, Michael P. Haroney of Old Hickory, TN; and five siblings: Mary Pat Haroney of England, Michael V. Haroney of Redford, Nicolas (Jennifer) Haroney of Chelsea, Julia (Hassan) El-Sabeh of Livonia, and Annie (Jim) Dawes of Livonia; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 14200 E. Old US-12, Chelsea, MI 48118 with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner presiding. Homer Conley

Homer Conley of Bonifay, FL, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home. He was born on September 30, 1911 in Salyersville, KY. He had lived in the Chelsea area for 60 years. Homer retired from Central Fiber. He loved the outdoors and hunting small game, and loved to ride his Indian motorcycle. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include his children, Norma Sue Conley of Cincinnati, OH, James (Evelyn) Hughes of Winter Haven, FL, and Gary (Cathy) Hughes of Spring, TX, and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Steve, Cindy, and Christy, as well as his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Adams) Conley in 1994, and a younger brother, Fred, whom he was very close to. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. Stephanie Ann "Sis" (Wagner) Kanten


Stephanie Ann "Sis" (Wagner) Kanten of Chelsea, MI, age 67, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 in her beloved home surrounded by her daughter, Kellie, family, and her dog, Buddy. She was born on August 20, 1942 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Fredrick and Katherine Ada (Staffan) Wagner. Sis had been bravely fighting emphysema for many years. She was proud of many accomplishments, including service on the Chelsea City Council, teaching in Dexter for 32 years, and involvement with the Dexter Community Patriotic Concert. Sis loved nothing more than teaching her students and sharing with them her patriotic spirit and love of learning. Sis was loved by many friends and family, too numerous to include, but it may be assumed that she loved and cherished them all. Her family includes one daughter, Kellie Kanten-Johnsson of Phoenix, AZ; her mother, Katherine “Katie” Wagner of Chelsea; two brothers, Fritz (Margaret) Wagner of Seattle, WA and John P. (Wendy) Wagner of Chandler, AZ; her aunt, Katherine A. Staffan of Chelsea; and Kellie's father, Wynn E. Kanten of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her father in 1981. The family would like to especially recognize the Chelsea Police Officers and Chelsea Firefighters who provided service above and beyond their call of duty on a daily basis; also, the Chelsea Hospital ER, ICU, and Respiratory staff who loved and cared for Sis like she was their family. The family would also like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Klinkman and Mary Sue Webb (RN). Charles F. Krausse, M.D.


Charles F. Krausse, M.D., age 89, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at his home. He was born and grew up in an isolated farming community, southeast of Petoskey, MI. He received his first education at a country school. Following leaving the farm, he worked for about two years before joining the Army in 1942, serving for four years during WWII. After his release from the Army he continued to work and prepare for college by home study. He attended Central Michigan University (then Central Michigan College) completing the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in three years, graduating with honors. He then attended the University of Michigan Medical School. Following his graduation from U of M Medical School he spent five years at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor: one year as an intern and four years on the General Surgery Service. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1962. During his residency in General Surgery he spent several weeks in Chelsea in 1959 and 1960 during a Locum Tenens for Dr. Joseph Fisher. This was his introduction to Chelsea. Upon completion of his residency in 1961 he returned to Chelsea to share an office with Dr. Fisher for 11 years. Since then he has been mainly in solo practice. His life since graduation from medical school has been devoted to medicine and surgery with the greatest emphasis on patient care. He was a member of the Surgery Staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital from 1961 to 1970, resigning from the Active Staff after the move of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital to Ypsilanti in 1970. He joined the staff of Chelsea Community Hospital in 1970. He was Chief of Staff from 1974 to 1976. He was also Chairman of the Emergency Room for about 15 years. His most important, guarded, secret distinction has been that he graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School without ever spending a single day in High School. He completed his 44th year of practice in Chelsea. He was the prime instigator of planning and building the Village Professional Building at 515 N. Main St. on property that he owned. He practiced in this building which was also occupied by offices of two dentists, a pediatrician, and an urologist until he retired in 2005 at the age of 85. Survivors include his wife, Mildred T. (Kuslak) Krausse of Ann Arbor; three children, Mary E. Krausse of Ann Arbor, Charles G. Krausse of Jeffersonville, IN, and Jerilynn Tucker of Holland, MI; and two grandchildren, Elliot P. Tucker and Dylan R. Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gerald Lee Krausse; and two sisters, Marie Luebke and Frances Krausse. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 8260 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 with Pastor Larry G. Courson officiating. Burial will follow at Clements Cemetery, Lima Twp. Daniel S. Whitesall


Daniel S. Whitesall of Chelsea, MI, age 57, passed away suddenly from a heart-related illness on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born on January 16, 1953 in Dearborn, MI, the son of Robert D. and Deloras R. (Machnik) Whitesall. On August 3, 1973, he married Denise Rose DiGiusto in Allen Park, and she survives. Dan had worked as a brick mason then at Longworth Plating in Chelsea for 24 years and most recently as a dispatcher for the Chelsea Police Department for 8 years. He loved hunting, fishing, playing Euchre, and U of M Football. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Daniel T. Whitesall and Amy R. Whitesall, both of Chelsea; three siblings, Tim (Pat) Whitesall of North Lake, Terry (Donna) Whitesall of Jackson, and Barbara Sue (Rudy) Hertlein of Ann Arbor; two sisters-in-law, Maria (Jim) Elmore of Gregory and Annette (Dean) Mitchell of Adrian; and several nieces, nephews, co-workers, neighbors, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special aunt, Virginia Migda. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of service. Jeannette D. "Jean" Pool


Jeannette D. "Jean" Pool of Chelsea, MI, formerly of Harrisville, MI and Manhattan, NY, age 65, passed away at the Arbor Hospice Residence on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 5, 1945 in Luton, England, the daughter of Thomas and Anne (Davis) Barbour. On June 4, 1966 she married Theodore M. Pool, and he survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Elise M. Pool of Pasadena, MD, a sister, Marion Burkholder of Florida, a niece, Barbara, and a nephew, Charles. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a cousin, Ronald Kerr. Jean was a vibrant and dynamic woman. She worked as the Media Director at J. Walter Thompson, an advertising company in Manhattan. An intelligent yet kind and gentle person, she loved her work and living in Manhattan. She was adored by her family and so many friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Diane Smith officiating. AJ Hale Sr.


AJ Hale Sr., of Chelsea, MI, age 90, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1919 in Galdia, KY, the son of John and Dove (Brown) Hale. Mr. Hale had lived in the Chelsea area since he was 16 years old and retired from Federal Screw in 1984 after 32 years of service. He also was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force, being discharged in September 1949. Favorite pastimes were playing poker (Texas Holdem) and spending time with his dog Rudy, his family, and his grandchildren. On December 24, 1949, he married Priscilla “Tootsie” Popovich, and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Dianna (David) Roberts of Manchester, Linda Kay (Rick) Westcott of Munith, AJ (Belinda) Hale Jr. of Marshall, Alan (Kelly Harness) Hale of Chelsea and favorite niece, Anita (Mike) Spears of Chelsea; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Berger and Mabel (Jim) Henkel, both of Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hale of Jackson and Lynne Popovich of Chelsea. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Roberts; a nephew, Michael Spears; three brothers, Luther, John, and Franklin Hale; and two sisters, Myrtle Howard and Madeline Martin. Jack D. Carpenter

Jack D. Carpenter of Jacksonville, FL, age 64, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Florida. He was born April 8, 1945 in Munith, the son of Ellis and Adeline (West) Carpenter. Jack was known for his sense of humor and he loved animals, especially birds, and was an animal rescuer. Most of all he was a loving brother and uncle. He is survived by five siblings, Carl Carpenter of Maine, Edsel Carpenter, JoAnne Arnett, Janet Carpenter, all of Chelsea, and Judy Jedele of Ann Arbor, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Kelly Carpenter and Arnold Carpenter. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ima Jean Bauer


Ima Jean Bauer of Chelsea, MI, age 75, passed away at the Chelsea Community Hospital on Saturday, March 6, 2010. She was born the daughter of Bill and Dollie (Flannery) Bradley in Martin, KY on January 27, 1935. On September 25, 1965, she married William Bauer and he survives. Jeanie loved to travel with Bill, especially to Hawaii. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved her dog Holly. Most of all she loved her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, William (Cheryl) Scott of Parma, Tamara (David) Weber of Grass Lake, and Todd (Camille) Bauer of Grass Lake, along with Bill's children, Julie (Tom) Young of Ohio, Daniel (Sandy) Bauer, and Barton (Nora) Bauer both of Salyersville, KY. Also surviving is her grandchild, Tiffany Scott; sisters, Pearl Prader of Leslie and Myrtle Hicks of David, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents. Donald Robert Schnebelt


Donald Robert Schnebelt of Ypsilanti, formerly of Dexter, MI, age 75, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township, MI. He was born the son of Joseph and Alice M. (Johnson) Schnebelt on August 11, 1934 in Laingsburg, MI. Don enjoyed fishing and making his own games. He enjoyed reading comic books and news papers and also watching sports on TV. Faith and family were the two most important things in his life. Don is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Studer of Aledo, TX and Sr. Paraclita Schnebelt of Clinton, formerly of Dexter, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Phillip, Ruth, Lorene, Joseph Jr. Lawrence, Audrey Boham, and Eugene Schnebelt. The Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at the St. Joseph Catholic Village Church on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Brendan J. Walsh Presiding. Rosetta Porath


Rosetta Porath of Chelsea, MI, age 84, died at the Chelsea Retirement Community on Saturday, March 6, 2010. She was born the daughter of Joseph P. and Ora (Woods) Robinson on January 11, 1926 in Clay City, IN. On July 28, 1945, she married Warren Porath Sr. and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2008. Rosetta loved to cook and she is remembered for her noodles. She loved dogs, especially her Kody. She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her family. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Warren (Pauline) Porath Jr. of Chelsea, Larry (Linda) Porath of Charlevoix, and Shelly (Paul) Stringer of Flushing. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Porath of New Port Ritchie, FL, Crystal (Steve) Heydlauff of Chelsea, Lucas (Jane) Porath of Charlevoix, Jacob (Amanda) Porath of Charlevoix, Aaron (Holly) Schurg of Traverse City, Ryan, Daniel, Joseph and Kathryn Stringer all of Flushing; great-grandchildren, Michael and Taylor Heydlauff, Kevin and Reece Porath, Kyle, Emma, and Jackson Porath, Foster Snell, Megan Porath, as well as Abbey and Aidan Schurg; brother, Joe Robinson; and sisters, Betty Farrell and Frances Weaver. Lynn J. Buege


Lynn J. Buege of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away at home on Saturday, February 27, 2010. He was born November 20, 1940, in Ann Arbor to Howard and Elva (Dahnke) Buege, who preceded him in death. On August 6, 1967, he married his beloved wife of 42 years, Delores (Stanfield) Buege in Stockbridge. He graduated from Milan High School, Washtenaw Community College, and attended the University of Michigan. He was employed at the U of M Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics for 45 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David and Paul (Sara); two grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia; two sisters, Gwen Buege and Nola (Dan) Musick; and his parents-in-law, Kenneth (Doris) Stanfield. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Robert J. Freysinger officiating. Delores Ruth Whitesall of Grass Lake formerly of Chelsea, MI, age 84, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Country Meadows Nursing Home in Grass Lake. She was born on March 5, 1925 in Nason, IL, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Resch) Machnik. Delores enjoyed working in the yard, talking about politics, and she truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For 25-plus years she worked for Cunningham Drug Store in Ann Arbor. On December 23, 1944 she married Robert Whitesall and he preceded her in death. Surviving are four children, Tim (Pat) Whitesall of North Lake, Terry (Donna) Whitesall of Jackson, Dan (Denise) Whitesall of Chelsea, and Barbara Sue (Rudy) Hertlein of Ann Arbor; one sister, Virginia Migda of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Machnik. A memorial service will be Friday, March 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Private burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Hospice or the Charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
