Kenneth Alan DeRosia
Of Dexter, MI
Loving husband of Susan and loving father of Christopher passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital on Saturday, October 7, 2006. He was born the son of Francis and Frances (Ferrier) DeRosia on December 20, 1944. On June 19,1982 he married Susan Geer in Kensington, MD at the Washington Temple. Kenneth was an avid crafter of plastic stitch tote bags, enjoyed watching and listening to old movies, and special shopping trips with his son Christopher. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Odd Fellows, Harmony Rebekah Lodge in Dexter. Kenneth is also survived by his brothers Dennis (Jan) DeRosia of South Lyon and Tom (Lee) DeRosia of Freedom, PA; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday, October 11 at 2:00 p.m. with Ed Beckstein officiating at the Chelsea Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. Brian W. Heeney
Of Stockbridge, MI
Age 22, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2006. He was born April 14, 1984 in Jackson, Michigan the son of William and Carrie (Stephens) Heeney. Brian had lived in the Stockbridge area all of his life. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 2002 and worked for Dart Container in Mason. Brian was known to all as the ’wild child’. He loved anything with four wheels and a motor. He loved racing cars, and raced with the family racing team, Heeney Racing. He also loved snowmobiling, fishing and golfing. Brian is survived by his parents, of Stockbridge, his sister Tracey Heeney and her fiancee Tom Hernly, of Lansing, his paternal grandmother, Juanita Heeney, of Stockbridge, his maternal grandparents, Velton (Ima)Stephens, of Munith, his aunts and uncles: Sandra (Pat) Clark and Margie (Dan) Clark, all of Munith, Connie (Todd) Lee, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Richard (Laura) Stephens, of Texas, Velton Jr. (Sue) Stephens, of Munith, Jim (Tammie) Heeney, of Stockbridge, also several cousins, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Cox. His tragic death was also shared with his cousin, Bradley Clark. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Heeney Sr. Funeral Services for Brian will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church in Bunker Hill, with Fr. Michael Petroski and Fr. Eugene Beiter con-celebrating. The family will receive friends at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Monday from 2-4 p.m., then at the church on Monday from 6-8 p.m. with Vigil services at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Spartan Speedway in memory of Brian W. Keith I. McKimmy Sr.
of Stockbridge, MI
Age 71, passed away Monday evening October 2, 2006 at his home.Under the care of his family,and Arbor Hospice, He was born on March 4, 1935 in Lansing , Michigan the son of Clarence and Claire (Crawford) McKimmy. Keith had lived in the area since 1966 and was employed by Capital Asphalt for many years. He enjoyed Bowling, Out doors, and most of all his family and grandchildren. On July 7, 1968 he married Joyce A.Fletcher in Temperance, MI, and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Rickie McKimmy of Fraser,Terri (Gerald) Fletcher of Grass Lake, Christine (Ralph) Sally of Stockbridge, and Daryl (Andrea) McKimmy of Stockbridge; one sister Patricia Fee of Lansing; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Keith I. Mckimmy II,David McKimmy,Ronnie McKimmy; one Great granddaughter, Morgan Lynn McKimmy; three brothers, Donald, Robert, and Frederick Fillingham, and two sisters, Janet Glasscock, and Marilyn Lance. Robert D. Ball Sr.
Of Chelsea. MI
Age 65, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Saline Evangelical Home after a four year long illness. He was born on August 8, 1941 the son of Dale H. and Alberta Hepburn. Robert had lived in the area all his life. He worked for Rockwell International in Chelsea for 20 years, farmed for several years and retired from Huron Clinton Metropolitan Authority in 2002. In January of 1962, he married Margaret A. Simpson in Ann Arbor, and she survives. He liked classic cars, hunting and fishing. At a very young age he was adopted and raised by his grandparents Rose and (Zink) Ball. After the death of his mother in 1967, he helped raise some of his younger siblings. After the death of his sister Roseanne Gimmey in 1977, he helped raise her son. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, brothers, Duffield and Edward; sister, Dorothy Hunawill, and his oldest son Robert D. Ball Jr. Surviving are his children, Elizabeth Ball of Chelsea, Shawn (Bill) Mikkelson of Dexter, William (Shasey) Ball of Chelsea; daughter-in-law Eileen Ball of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews, including Robert Gimmey; grandchildren, R. Dale Ball III, Chance Mikkelson, Andrea Ball, Tyler Ball, and Matthew McCormick; brothers, David Ball of Clarmont NC, Richard (Sandra) Ball of Grass Lake, Thomas Ball of Tallahassee, FL, Michael (Beverly) Slane of Chelsea, and Charles Slane of Jackson; sisters, Mary Schiller of Chelsea, Rose (John) Goebel of Williamsville, MO, and Mary Gaken of Chelsea. Age 48, died unexpectedly at his home on October 2, 2006. He was born March 23, 1958 in Trenton, Michigan, the son of Gerald and Mary (Dunlap) Boritzki. He had lived in the Whitmore Lake area for the past 11 years, moving from Pinckney. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1976. Ken was a member of the Unadilla Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and motorcycles, and was an avid U of M fan. He is survived by his two children, Kalynn and Kenneth ’Luke’ Boritzki of Pinckney; his mother Mary Darlene Boritzki of Gregory; two sisters Kaye (Bob) Frensley of Nashville, TN, and Diane (Cooper) Wood of Franklin, TN, and Jim (Debbie) Boritzki of Chelsea; also two nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1999. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. John Qiu officiating. Burial will follow at the Unadilla Cemetery. Age 50 passed away at home in Baldwin on September 17, 2006. Steve was born on January 11, 1956 in Ann Arbor MI to Frank C. and Jutta M. (Gahlow) Gross. Graduating in 1974 from Manchester High School, Steve excelled as an athlete in three sports wrestling, football, and baseball. After high school, Steve worked with his brother. He then became a licensed builder and had his own business. Steve then changed careers to owner/operator for Mayflower Transit. His final employment was managing Ivan’ Marquette Camp in Baldwin. Steve enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing golf. Steve is survived by his mother Jutta Gross of Clayton MI, formerly of Ann Arbor; brother Richard (Nancy) Gross of Ann Arbor; sister Renee (John) Weidmayer of Clayton MI; and brother in law Brett Fischbach of Baldwin, MI. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Lisa) Gross and their children Tyler and Ryan Gross; Richard Scott Gross; Nicole, Shelly, and Jeremiah Weidmayer; aunt Rita (Ray) Parsons; cousins Jeff Parsons and Margie Schiller and their families, along with many good friends. Cora I. Hoffman
of Gregory, MI
Age 82, passed away Monday, October 2, 2006 at her home. She was born on December 26, 1923 in Franklin, North Carolina, the daughter of Elisha and Millie (Blackburn) Fox. Cora had lived in the Gregory area since 1949 and enjoyed listening to Gospel Music and watching westerns. She especially enjoyed her dog Rosie and her family. On January 26, 1946 she married William C. Hoffman and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1999. Surviving are three children, Robert (Jeanne) Hoffman of Gregory, Barbara Taylor of Stockbridge, and Evelyn (Lewis) Daniels of Gregory; eight grandchildren, Stacy Tatman, Dawn Risner, Michael, Jeff, Craig, and Ryan Hamlin, Jill Perkins, and Marianne Pratt; 11 great grandchildren as well as one brother Weaver Fox of Franklin North Carolina. She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter; Betty, four sisters and five brothers; her son-in-law Tom Hamlin and her grandson-in-law Anthony Perkins. Merle L. Davis, age 90 of Chelsea, died September 29, 2006, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born August 15, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Ferol Davis. He married Stella Johnson July 20, 1940.
Merle spent most of his career working in purchasing for Montgomery Ward in Chicago. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Before his retirement, he worked for the Wickes Corporation as vice president of the wholesale kitchen cabinet division. He and Stella lived in Blue Island, Illinois, where Merle served in leadership roles at the First United Methodist Church, on the library board, the school board, and in the Boy Scout program. He and his wife moved to Chelsea in 1983 to be near their family. Merle was involved in the Kiwanis Club, and he was an active member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. He faithfully served Chelsea Community Hospital as a volunteer for fourteen years. Merle and his wife moved to the Chelsea Retirement Community in 1996. Throughout his life, Merle was dedicated to his family, his church, and his community. Merle was preceded in death by parents John and Ferol Davis, stepmother Carolyn Davis, brother Glen Davis and sister Helen Sunter. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Stella (Johnson) Davis; his sister, Miriam Green; children, Barbara (Ed) Brown, Chelsea, Michigan, John (Cheryl) Davis, Seattle, Washington, and Robert (Alison) Davis, Laguna Beach, California; grandchildren, Heidi Pearson, Christy Frederick, Tracy Davis, Allison Vanderspool, Erik Brown, Cameron Davis and Conor Davis; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel on Sunday, October 1, from 3-5 P.M. and at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. The funeral will be on Tuesday, October 3, at 1:00 P.M. at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joy Barrett and Rev. Beth Foster officiating. Lyn Yarows
of Dexter
Beloved wife of Steven A. Yarows, M.D. and dear mother of twin children Kevin E. and Kristen C. Yarows, died Tuesday morning, September 26, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 2, 1955, the daughter of Edward J. and Wilma Worden. Lyn moved to Michigan in 1980 to continue her nursing career and shortly after married Steve in Dexter on September 22, 1984. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter where she had been a religious education teacher and mentor. Lyn will be remembered as an active community volunteer and a proud member of the Steeler Nation. Currently, Lyn was serving on the Boards of the J.C. Banfield Foundation and the Education Foundation of Dexter. Surviving are her siblings Suzanne (Bob) Fagan of Wildwood, New Jersey, Kathy (Mike) Gandley of Ypsilanti, Bernard Worden, and Ed (Debbie) Worden of Pittsburgh, PA. She is also survived by nephews Jesse Gandley and Daniel Schurgin. Lyn was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Marguerite Worden. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dexter, with Rev. Brendan J. Walsh and Rabbi Robert Levi officiating. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 North Main Street, Chelsea on Wednesday from 6-8p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. with the Wake at 7:00 p.m. Friends will also be received at the church on Friday from 9:00am until 10:00. Age 101, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born on July 29, 1905 in Lima Township the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Kraft) Abdon. Florence took great pride in her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel. She and her husband Floyd and the family visited many states of the union, using all modes of transportation, automobiles, trains, plane and boat. She enjoyed visiting one of her favorite destinations, Hawaii, several times, as well as a trip to Switzerland, France, and Germany. Her hobbies included reading, and caring for her many houseplants and garden flowers, and she never turned down an opportunity to go shopping. She was a life long member of the First Congregational Church of Chelsea and was married in the church parsonage on May 8, 1925. Other than a brief period in Dexter and Ann Arbor following her marriage, Florence spent her entire life in Chelsea. She enjoyed visiting other parts in the world, but always was pleased to return to her home and family in Chelsea. In February 2004, Florence moved from her home in Chelsea to the Saline Evangelical Home. On July 28, 2005 a party was held at the Saline Evangelical Home to honor Florence on her 100th birthday. The party, attended by 30 friends and family members, was a huge success. Florence enjoyed the festivities and even wore a Tiara given to her by one of her granddaughters. In July 2006 , a small party was held in honor of her 101st birthday, and yes, she even blew out all the candles. Surviving are three sons, Ronald (Nancy) Gentner of Stockbridge, Duane (Carole) Gentner of Parker, CO, and Terry Gentner of Chelsea, one brother Robert Abdon of Chelsea, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Gentner on September 6, 1983, four sisters, Oleta Abdon, Ethel Abdon, Elnora Wright, and Nell Pierce, also two brothers, Richard Abdon and Russell Abdon. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Rev. Dr. Barbara Wright officiating. Age 65, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born October 11, 1940 in Jackson Michigan, daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle (Little) Mushbach. She had many joys in life, her grandchildren were a huge part of that. You were sure to find her enjoying the 4-H fair, along with cheering her children and grandchildren on at their sporting events. She enjoyed working on her crossword puzzles and found humor in watching game shows. She will forever be known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Janet married Joe E. Taylor on October 6, 1962 in Munith Michigan, and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Julie Jo Wilson, Jeff J. (Tammy) Taylor of Dexter, Jonathon J. (Amy) Taylor of Gregory, Jake J. (Christy) Taylor of Munith, and Jodi J. Taylor of Gregory. In addition, she has ten grandchildren surviving; Amanda, Jennifer, Jordyn, Jeanni, Katie, Courtney, Emalie, Breanna, Collin and Jessica. Age 65, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born October 11, 1940 in Jackson Michigan, daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle (Little) Mushbach. She had many joys in life, her grandchildren were a huge part of that. You were sure to find her enjoying the 4-H fair, along with cheering her children and grandchildren on at their sporting events. She enjoyed working on her crossword puzzles and found humor in watching game shows. She will forever be known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Janet married Joe E. Taylor on October 6, 1962 in Munith Michigan, and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Julie Jo Wilson, Jeff J. (Tammy) Taylor of Dexter, Jonathon J. (Amy) Taylor of Gregory, Jake J. (Christy) Taylor of Munith, and Jodi J. Taylor of Gregory. In addition, she has ten grandchildren surviving; Amanda, Jennifer, Jordyn, Jeanni, Katie, Courtney, Emalie, Breanna, Collin and Jessica. Delores worked for Western Stamping and retired from DANA Corporation in Chelsea after 30 years. She enjoyed garage sales, golf, and sewing, making all of her kid’s clothes. She loved spending time with her look a-like sister Annabell and the ’beauty shop tales’ on Saturdays. She loved going to church, and attended the Good Shepherd Mission, as well as the Gregory Family Tabernacle Church. She especially liked Gospel music and sang with the Gloryland singers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Betty Risner, and a great-niece Kalyn. Martin and he survives. Audrey enjoyed playing cards and going to the casinos especially in January for her ’Girls Trip’. She was a member of the Ypsilanti OES, a past Mother Advisor of the Rainbow and loved playing video games with her grand kids. Audrey also loved taking care of her babies, both at work and her own at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Mary (John) Thompson of Adrian, William Martin of Tecumseh, Buffy Kazmierczack of Tecumseh; her brothers and sisters; Sandy (Errol) Schuman of Clayton, MI, Sheila Hall of Tecumseh, and Randy (Lori) Tincher of Dundee, MI. Audrey is also survived by 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many special friends. On December 29, 1944 he married Maxine J. Borusch and she survives. Mr. Hardy worked at Paul C. Chapman and Son in Ypsilanti for 35 years. In 1988 he and Maxine moved to Lincoln. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family. Along with his wife he is survived by his children; Judy (Bruce) Park of Chelsea, Janice Coon of Ann Arbor, Jim Hardy of Ann Arbor, and Jane Wollard of Ypsilanti. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two children Angie Bach and Anthony Bach of Dexter; his parents of Troy, Michigan; his brother Mike (Ellen) Bach of Chelsea, two sisters; Margaret Bach of Troy, Michigan and Mary Alice (Dave) Misz of Sterling Heights; five nephews and one niece. She was the daughter of Newton and Emily Marshall Cole, both of Kentucky where 13 children were born of this union of which 11 are deceased. Zorri is survived by a brother Elmer Cole and a sister Shug Cole, both of Kentucky. Zorri is also survived by numerous half sisters and brothers. She married Orville Hughes on May 23, 1936. They were married for 43 years. Orville preceded her in death on August 9, 1979. She married Homer Fletcher on November 21, 1980. They were married for 15 years. Homer preceded her in death on August 6, 1995. Zorri is survived by seven children, a son Paul (Jody) Hughes of Dolan Springs, AZ; daughter Pearl (John) Sparks of Kingman, Arizona; daughter Cinda (Keith) Patrick of Jackson, Michigan; daughter Thelma (Colbert) Smith of Stockbridge, Michigan; daughter Ruth (Harold) Brown of Parma, Michigan; daughter Kathy (Bob) Stone of Leslie, Michigan; daughter Jody (Steve) Poe of Jackson, Michigan. Zorri is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She had taught school there and was also a former executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Midland and Caro. From 1995 until her death she was employed at the University of Michigan. Lucy received her masters degree in 2000 from U of M and at the time of her death was a resource librarian in pediatric research at the University. Lucy loved to work in flower gardens. She was artistic and enjoyed stained glass, countedcross stitch and glass bead jewelry and was an accomplished web designer. Surviving are her mother of Gregory, a sister and three brothersAudie M. Hampshire of Portland, Ore., Charles M. Jerry, age 62 passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born June 13, 1944 in Columbia, Tennessee, the son of Ted Beauchamp and Aline (Beauchamp) Dixon. After graduating from Stockbridge High School in 1962 he served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Sawyer Air Base near Marquette, MI. Jerry was an excavation contractor and restorer of antique tractors, he owned and operated M0-Ex Corp. in Punta Gorda for many years. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Sutton) Beauchamp, his mother, Aline (Lacerne) Dixon, of Munith, MI., his sister, Nina (Lee) Redinger of Wausau, WI, a daughter and son, Gigi (Randy) Kangas and Heath Beauchamp both of Nagaunee, MI. and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Bettye Beauchamp. Service arrangements are being handled by the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge. Age 35, passed away July 19, 2006. He was born August 11, 1970 to Sandy and Errol Schuman and they survive. He is the cherished husband of Tonya and the beloved Father and ’Best Bud’ of Colin and Carson and son-in-law of Michael and Lynda Horvath. Duane is a veteran of the Marine Corp who served in Desert Storm. He was a 1989 graduate of Belleville High School and was employed by Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed Michigan football, fishing, and time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his devotion to his family. Age 35, passed away July 19, 2006. He was born August 11, 1970 to Sandy and Errol Schuman and they survive. He is the cherished husband of Tonya and the beloved Father and ’Best Bud’ of Colin and Carson and son-in-law of Michael and Lynda Horvath. Duane is a veteran of the Marine Corp who served in Desert Storm. He was a 1989 graduate of Belleville High School and was employed by Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed Michigan football, fishing, and time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his devotion to his family. Duane is also survived by his grandparents Earl & Louise Schuman, Grandmother Larinda Ritter, Sister Angie (Dennis Lolley) Schuman, Brothers-in-law Michael (Robin) Horvath, Bryan (Michelle) Horvath, Brad Horvath, Sister-in-law Renee (Mark) LeClair, many Aunts and Uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his long time best friend Matt Berry. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church her entire life where she played the organ and sang for many weddings and funerals. He is survived by his best friend of 18 years, his wife Deborah Sue Salyers(Flum), who he married August 24, 1996. Heis also survied by his 2 sons, Christopher Michael and Brandon Lee Andrew. He became disabled while working at Marshal Brass, and was no longer able to work. His wife is an employee at the post office in Rives Junction as a mail carrier. He was a good husband and father with many talents which he taught his sons. Chris passed away June 15th 7:37 PM at Foote Hospital.. He was loved by everyone he knew and will be terribly missed. Age 35 died unexpectedly on June 6, 2006. He was born the son of Robert M. and Denise C. (Joseph) Stull on November 15, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia and they survive. Greg loved serving his county. He proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Gulf War in Operation Desert Shield and Storm. He also served in the United States Army for a period of three years and was also a Reservist for a period of two years before leaving the military to work as a machinist for Federal Screw in Chelsea. Greg’s greatest love was for his two children Samantha and Billy and they survive him as well. In addition to his parents from Rives Junction and his two children he is survived by his brother Robert Jr. (Jeanette) Stull of Jackson, Many Aunts and Uncles as well as the mother of his children Angie Thomas and her family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Caskey-Mitchell funeral home. Age 87, died June 4, 2006 at University of Michigan Hospital. He was born March 13, 1919 the son of William H. and Alta B. (Bullis) Meyer in Detroit, MI. Bill grew up in Pinckney on the family farm and was involved in the family business of hauling livestock to Detroit and hauling milk to Twin Pines Farm Dairy. Bill had one of the first Bulk Milk Trucks in Southern Michigan. He was a machinist in various manufacturing plants, Chelsea, Jackson and Pinckney. He also worked for the Ingham Co. Road Commission, as well as the State of Michigan for the Department of Transportation, where he was instrumental in designing the highway striping machine. Bill was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army landing in Germany during WWII. Bill was a member of the Stockbridge American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge. Upon retirement he was proficient in fixing air conditioning in his garage of which there was always a car, truck, tractor or refrigerator to be looked at, however, when it came October he would head for Florida to bask in the sun. Bill married Mary Otwell, and from that union was a son Dell William Meyer. On November 3, 1944 he married Doris L. Moeckel Phipps in Little Rock, Arkansas, and from that union was two daughters, B. Carroll Phipps Meyer Hatt of Chelsea, and Darlene H. Meyer of Ann Arbor, and a son Barry William (Diane) Meyer of Jackson, three grandchildren Shelly L Robbins, Colleen M. Hatt, and Barry Wm. Meyer II, and three great-grandchildren Cody Robbins, Sheri Robbins, and Robert D. Hatt. On July 19, 1996 Bill married Rosemarie (Higley) Kothe, who has three children, Keith (Sherry) Kothe, Greg (Meggan) Kothe, and Karen Kothe (Raymond Vallejo), five grandchildren Bernie, Lana, Christian, Jennifer, and Daniell, and two great-grandchildren Jade and Lela. He is also survived by two sisters, Willa Lamb of Ann Arbor, and Megan Atlee of Virginia, and two brothers Garth Meyer of Houghton Lake, and James E. Meyer of Pinckney. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, his second wife, Doris, a great-granddaughter Shelby Robbins, and a brother, Marc E. Meyer. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Henning officiating. She was a life long residence, and a long member of St. Jacob Luther Church WELS of Grass Lake. She enjoyed Gardening, Flowers,Travel Channel,Ice Skating, and helping out with the Dewey School Days and the Waterloo Farm days. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1942. On September 1944 she married Frank A. Trapp and he preceded her in death in 2000. Surviving are 2 brother-in-laws Raymond Wilcox and Donald Wild both of Stockbridge. 2 sister-in-laws Ruth Tisch of Jackson, and Harriet Trapp of Stockbridge. Several nieces and nephews including Betty Ackley of Jackson and Leona Tisch of Grand Rapids. She was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Wilma Rose and 1 brother Wilbur Tisch. She was a life long residence, and a long member of St. Jacob Luther Church WELS of Grass Lake. She enjoyed Gardening, Flowers,Travel Channel,Ice Skating, and helping out with the Dewey School Days and the Waterloo Farm days. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1942. On September 1944 she married Frank A. Trapp and he preceded her in death in 2000. Surviving are 2 brother-in-laws Raymond Wilcox and Donald Wild both of Stockbridge. 2 sister-in-laws Ruth Tisch of Jackson, and Harriet Trapp of Stockbridge. Several nieces and nephews including Betty Ackley of Jackson and Leona Tisch of Grand Rapids. She was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Wilma Rose and 1 brother Wilbur Tisch. Gerald Oakley and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1984. Isabelle graduated from St. Lawrence College with a degree in nursing. She was very active in Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church where she was an Altar Society member, authored a book on the history of the church, and was also a member of the Rosary Guild. Isabelle was an excellent caregiver to many patients, foster children, her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children; John (Stephanie) Oakley of Dimondale, Catherine A. O. Sherman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Theresa Layman of Mason; eight granddaughters, Jennifer Oakley Osborne, Erin Oakley Reynolds, Brooke Oakley Carpenter, Ashley Oakley, Brieanne Layman Hensley, Marissa Layman, Megen Oakley and Alicia Layman; three great-grandchildren, Kymberly, Zachary and Hunter; two sisters, Eulalia Castelein of Tucson, AZ; and Marie Brenamen of Fostoria, OH; and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Pinckney High School and Cleary College and worked in the office of Ypsilanti Stove Company. She was married to Edward L. Curry of Milan, MI on July 3, 1938, and in 1941 they moved to Garden City, MI. She was secretary of the Garden City Board of Education and bookkeeper for C. Hershey Chevrolet Dealership. She attended the Garden City Presbyterian Church helping with the children's choir. She was co-chairman for the first Mother's March of Dimes in Garden City and publicity chairman for the United Way. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and a Boy Scout den mother. She worked as a substitute teacher for several years and was Secretary/Office Manager for the Wayne County Branch of Michigan Farm Bureau from 1967-1978, after which she and her husband returned to their present home on Joslin Lake. Her hobbies were sewing, fishing, bowling, playing cards with family & friends, and family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Roland & Laurence Gorton, and a daughter, Patricia Curry. She is survived by her husband, Edward Lewis Curry; daughter, Nancy Christina (Dennis) Kubin of Westland; Betty Colleen (Robert) Barbour of West Bloomfield and a son, Gary Edward Curry of Garden City, MI; five granddaughters, Kristi (Al) Bloink, Shannon (Chad) McElvany, Colleen Marie (Paul) Dembinski, Stephanie F. On September 3, 1940 Eileen married William M. Brown, and that union lasted 64 years until he preceded her in death on September 13, 2004. Prior to her marriage, Eileen owned a beauty salon in Indiana. After 1940, she devoted her life to her husband and children and was active in many church and community programs in Dexter, Michigan. Survivors include her two children, Jerry M. Brown (Evelyn) of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Linda J.Brown of Farmington Hills, Michigan; five grandchildren: Randall M.Brown (Mona), Robert W. Passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor, Michigan at age 88. She was born March 23, 1918 in Evansville, Indiana to Oscar E. and Flossie A. (Julian) Toole. On September 3, 1940 Eileen married William M. Brown, and that union lasted 64 years until he preceded her in death on September 13, 2004. Prior to her marriage, Eileen owned a beauty salon in Indiana. After 1940, she devoted her life to her husband and children and was active in many church and community programs in Dexter, Michigan. Survivors include her two children, Jerry M. Brown (Evelyn) of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Linda J.Brown of Farmington Hills, Michigan; five grandchildren: Randall M.Brown (Mona), Robert W. Brown, Jennifer L. Wilson (Shaun), Benjamin R.Goldberg, and Alex L. Helen Gertrude Jarrell of Prestonsburg, KY passed away at the age of 88, Sunday, April 30, 2006 while in the care of Heartland Manor, Jackson, MI.
She was born in Martin KY, March 23, 1918 to William Grant Jarrell and Frances Laurie (Lafferty). She is survived by her two children, Richard A. (Sharon) Lynch and Frances J. (Rod) West. She is also survived by four grandchildren. Pam (Ken) Shepard, Daya (Oscar) Garcia, Trevor West, Briana West and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by several husbands, Earl Lynch, Curtis Jarrell and Chalmer Myers, beloved grandson, attorney, Anthony L. Lynch and three sisters; baby Thelma, Lula DeMarke and Alma Key.
Helen was a stubborn, courageous, adventuresome and independent soul and a woman well ahead of her time. She came to Michigan for the first time during WWII to support the war effort by building B29 bomber airplanes at the Willow Run Airport. She was one of the original ’Rosie the Riveters’. After the war was over, she moved back to Martin, KY.
In 1950, Helen and her family moved back to Michigan and took residence in Munith. In 1956 she hired in at Chelsea Milling Co., ’Jiffy Mix’ and worked there until her retirement in 1969. After retiring, she followed her dream with her husband and started traveling across the U.S. and Canada training and racing their sulky horses. Her horses were quite successful and gave her a tremendous amount of joy. Upon the death of her husband, she moved to Alabama and worked for Auburn University where she taught mentally and physically challenged adults for several years. She also attended the University of Georgia. She then moved back to her home, Prestonsburg, KY and started working for the State with juvenile delinquents and then on to the Layne House where she worked with adults addicted to alcohol and drugs. She retired from the Layne House at age 76. She then resumed her favorite pastimes; traveling, reading and playing cards.
There will be a private family wake in her honor, at her request. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her honor to the Layne House Substance Abuse TRET Program Rehabilitation Service, 1416 South Lake Dr., Prestonsburg, KY 41653. Denise had lived in the Chelsea area all of her life. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1987, and worked for Chelsea Community Hospital for 20 years in the Food Service Department. Denise volunteered her time in so many ways, including Relay for Life, the American Heart Association, and Cystic Fibrosis. She also loved karaoke. Age 43, died as a result of a work-related helicopter accident in Washtenaw County on April 13, 2006. Scott was born the son of Clyde R. and Merry E. (Grady) Sumner on August 7, 1962 in Highland Park, Michigan. He leaves behind a loving wife Amy (Jeruzal) Sumner and two beautiful boys, Riley (age 4) and Mitchell (age 2 and one-half), and his parents of Chelsea and his brother David. Scott loved life. He was an avid fisherman, planning extensive trips for anyone that would join him. His fondness for the outdoors initiated his interest in golfing and boating. His collection of John Deere tractors kept growing as his boys continued to express their excitement for tractor rides. Scott was often found surrounded by more friends than could be counted, grilling and sharing a glass of red wine. His desire to be ’on the go’ led him to express one of his favorite quotes, ’Hurry please!’ His ability to think fast on his feet is what made him an exceptional officer with a love for his job that few people ever experience. He achieved the rank of Chief of Police in Chelsea on May 15, 2004. His attention to detail was always obvious in the way that every part of his person was perfectly groomed, including the absence of even a flick of lint on his uniform and the best ’flat top’ haircut anyone had ever seen. He touched thousands of people, including the youngest child and the eldest citizen, but most importantly the two boys that will always be grateful to have been able to call him Daddy. He was often found driving them through the golf course or boating on the lake. His quest for knowledge made him an ’expert’ at any topic he showed interest in, and he never hesitated to share his newfound knowledge. He was greatly loved by all and is survived by his most loving in-laws, James and Jacquelyn (Michielsen) Jeruzal, Timothy Jeruzal and Cheryl Boglarsky, Harold and Patricia (Jeruzal) Hildenbrand, Christopher Jeruzal and Erin Montgomery. He worked for his family’s business, Tuttle Spring Designs from 1986-2000. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1996, and received his Bachelor’s of Applied Sciences from Siena Heights in January 2006. Matt was a Captain for the Chelsea Fire Authority since April of 2006, serving since 1997, and also worked for Huron Valley Ambulance since 1998. He was also enrolled in the Police Academy for Chelsea Reserves. He was a Washtenaw Co. Medical Examiner trainee for one year. He was president and past board member of Lake LeAnne Properties Owner’s Association. Matt was also a helicopter and private plane pilot. On July 31, 2004 he married Mary K. Lisznyai in Mackinaw Island, and she survives. Also surviving are his parents of Jerome, MI, his mother-in-law Pamela, of Chelsea, grandparents Richard and Mary Kalmbach of Gregory, brother Marc Tuttle, of Chelsea, sister-in-law Kris Loucks of Chelsea, nieces Andrea and Brianna Loucks, nephews Jacob Broese and Christopher Lisznyai, niece Jessica Lisznyai, aunts Elaine (Wayne) Quick of Holt, Roberta (Gary) Hohenberger of Ann Arbor, several cousins including Trisha and J.D. He died on September 5th, 1988. Jo Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Hildred Toel and her father Henry Toel. Survivors include her daughter Anne Toel Makeever of St. Louis, MO, daughter Katherine Toel Farr of Manchester, MI, and her son Tom Toel Makeever of Jacksonville, FL; her grandsons Travis Farr and Evan Makeever McFarland; her granddaughters Ashley Ann Farr, Kelsey Alexandra Makeever and Cameron Olivia Makeever. Age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, March 15, 2006. Ellie was born on September 16, 1913 in Highland Park, MI, the daughter of Alexander and Mary (Dearing) Gilbert. She spent much of her life in the North Lake (MI) area, which she cherished very much. Ellie was a member of the North Lake United Methodist Church since her childhood and was a member of Inverness Country Club at North Lake all of her adult life. On May 7, 1936, she married William D. (’Don’) Reynolds in Angola, Indiana. He passed away on April 6, 1985. Ellie was also preceded in death by an infant son, Alan Gilbert Reynolds; her sister, Mary Gilbert; her brother, Jack Gilbert; her mother, Mary (Dearing) Gilbert DeKarske; and her father, Alexander Gilbert. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) (Reynolds) Perelman; son-in-law, Scott Perelman; and beloved grandson, Samuel Perelman, all of Monroe, MI. She is also survived by her sister, Catherine (Harold) Paul of Ann Arbor, MI; sister-in-law Sylvia Gilbert of North Lake (MI); sister-in-law Lois (Reynolds) Bush of Bakersfield, CA; as well as many loving nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Ellie will be lovingly remembered for her competitive spirit, whether in golf, fishing, bowling, bingo, cards or any challenge. For many years, she was a tireless volunteer in area assisted living/nursing homes, playing the piano for residents to brighten their days. She served as the choir director and/or church organist at the North Lake United Methodist Church and served on various church committees for many years. She was a role model to many whose lives she touched. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at the North Lake United Methodist Church in the summer. He is survived by eight children, Gail (Robert) Hardy of Bath, Bennie (Diane) Hallam of Virginia, Jeanette (Joe) Hayslip of Greenville, Paul (Fawn) Hallam of Dansville, Bennie Hallam, Jr. of Lansing, Shannon (John) Hallam of Lansing, Sheri Hallam of Lansing and Shawn (Marcie) Hallam of Lansing; 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Hallam of Detroit, Daniel Curtis of Eaton Rapids, and David Curtis of Dimondale, four sisters, Alice (Jack) Luckenbill of Missouri, Sharon (Emory) Place of Dewitt, Kathy (John) McCann of Williamston, and Deborah (Elton) Swaenepoel of Jackson. Mr. Hallam was preceded in death in by his biological father and Step Father; wife Marvel Straub one son Timothy and one infant sister Charlene Hallam. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 2:30 p.m. from the Millville United Methodist Church, Stockbridge with Rev. Robert J. Freysinger officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday. March 9, 2–4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge. Age 67, passed away March 7, 2006 at her home. She was born on November 14, 1939 in Jackson, Michigan the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Judson) Green. Frances was the first female firefighter in the state of Michigan and fought fires for Henrietta Township for 24 years. She also sold Avon products for nearly 30 years in the area. Her favorite pastime included knitting, animalsof all kinds and supporting the Jackson North West Mounties band boosters. Surviving are two sons, John (Tren) Garfield of Albion, and Steve (fiancee Linda Harmon) Garfield of Munith, her daughter-in-law Carmen Saldivar of Homer; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Paul (Anna) Cady of Rives Junction, and Eben (Naomi) Cady of Jackson; two sisters, Pauline Cady of Jackson and Joanne (Larry) Hill of Leslie; and a life long special friend Sue Hinkley of Pleasant Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Graydon D. Garfield and her son G. Dale Garfield. Funeral services will be Saturday March 11, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge with Rev. Toby Teague officiating. On March 2, 2006, the angels welcomed home their faithful servant, Billie L. Opple, as she passed from this earthly world to be reunited with her heavenly Father. She will be together with those who have gone before her; husband, Peter Opple, father William Luther Gadberry, mother Rhoda Frances Gadberry and her brother Charles Gadberry. Billie was born in Sparksville, Kentucky, but lived most of her life in the Ann Arbor/Chelsea area. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker for most of her life and was a member of and attended the Christian Fellowship Church of Chelsea for well over 30 years. She was a very strong woman who had survived many trials and tribulations in her life because of her faith and trust in God. She believed in the power of prayer and followed Jesus’ directions in Matthew 28:7 that states ’therefore go, and make more disciples of all nations,and teach them to obey every thing I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the end of the age.’ She loved to spread the Good Word to those who needed it the most. She also was blessed with a giving heart and touched many people during her stay here with us. Billie is survived by her two children who lovingly cared for her during her illness. She leaves behind her daughter Patricia Frances Opple Horton of Akron, Ohio; her son, Ronald K.(Robin) Miller of Jackson, Michigan; grandchildren, Arlo R. (Ruthe) Guttman and Sarah Ilana Guttman of Akron; Ryan K. Miller of Jackson; great grandchild, Mickey, and one on the way. She also leaves behind many friends that touched her life. The family would like to thank Great Lakes Hospice especially Cindy and Pat for their loving care, support and guidance given to Billie and her family. Funeral services will be Monday, March 6, 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church of Chelsea with Pastor John Dombacher officiating. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell funeral home on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
