Age 49, passed away at his home on October 25, 2008. He was born on October 13, 1959 the son of Wilbur and Donna (Pickell) Lee. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1978, and had lived in Scottsdale, AZ for the past 14 years, moving from Gregory. On March 5, 1988 he married Connie Stephens, and she survives. He is also survived by his mother, of Whitefish, MT, one sister Dawn (Mark) Gregory, also of Whitefish, MT, 16 nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ima Jean (Velton) Stephens, of Munith; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Richard (Laura) Stephens of Texas, Velton Jr. (Susie) Stephens, Sondra (Pat) Clark, Margie (Dan) Clark, all of Munith, and Carrie (Billy Jr.) Heeney of Stockbridge. He was preceded in death by his father, two nephews Brian Heeney, and Brad Clark. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Stockbridge. Ron died suddenly on November 4th in an accident working on land near his Lima Township home. Ron is survived by his wife, Caren (Como), his daughters Amy (Bill) Lamb of Chelsea, Dr. Charlotte (Colby) Skelton of Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Meghann (Michael) Zellen of Los Angeles, granddaughters Madeleine, MacKenna, and Molly Lamb of Chelsea, and sister Jane (Joe) Ringer of Deephaven, Minnesota. Born on October 12, 1942 to Jake and Claudine (Jones) Ziegler in Flint, Michigan, Ron graduated from Bentley High School. He attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1965, and later earned a Professional Engineer license. In college, Ron met the love of his life, Caren, and they were married in 1964. They have lived in Chelsea since 1974, save for three years spent working in Saudi Arabia and exploring the world with their young family. Ron retired in 2006 from the Chelsea Proving Grounds. Ron did everything with limitless enthusiasm and passion. He never did anything half-way, he never sat around waiting for life to happen to him. Even in retirement, Ron worked tirelessly. He tackled projects for family and friends, and still made time for motorcycles, horses, bird-hunting, and training his beloved dog, Chloe. On the day he died, Ron and Chloe were enjoying a beautiful Indian Summer afternoon cutting wood on a nearby farm. Ron also had made plans for a motorcycle ride with friends and a family dinner party later that evening. This day was like so many others, symbolic of the mix of hobbies, friends, and loved ones that made up his life. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Ron will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Age 71, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born on December 15, 1936 in Columbus, OH, the son of Alfred and Ida Mae (Froelich) Leasure. Forrest lived in Georgetown for the past 15 years, coming from Lansing, MI. He was the Division Manager for the Coca Cola Bottling Company serving the Columbus, Lansing, and Jackson areas for 35 years. He truly loved his family, drag racing, street rods, salt-water fishing, and traveling with his wife, Linda. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1957. On June 14, 1975 he married Linda M. DeYarmond in Brooklyn, MI and she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Kim (David) Lambert of Georgetown, Karen (Russell) Bratcher of Georgetown, and Jeri Sue Leasure of San Diego; one brother, Norbert (Sandra) Leasure and one sister, Karen Arms, both of Ohio; three grandchildren, Amy Lambert, Russell Bratcher, and Olivia (Michael) Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Delbert Leasure, and two sisters, Lillian Winger and JoAnn Leasure. Age 93, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008 at the Chelsea Community Hospital. She was born on January 9, 1915 in Waterloo Township the daughter of Herbert and Ardie (Hubbard) Collins. Marian was a faithful member of the Stockbridge Presbyterian Church for 80 years. She served as the organist, choir director, choir member and was active in Sunday School, youth activities and the Women's Club. Music played a large part in her life. She taught piano lessons for many years to the young people of the area. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1932, not leaving her fond hometown. Marian will be missed by "the ladies," her wonderful care givers for a long time. On November 7, 1936 she married Wayne A. Collier, and together they shared their lives for 66 years. Wayne preceded her in death on November 6, 2002. Surviving are three children, Dennis (Kay) Collier of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, Diane (Jim) Gesler of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Deborah Collier of Carbondale, Colorado; ten grandchildren Michael (Gail), Gregory (Joanne), Geoffrey (Janis), Andrew (Angela) Collier, Michael (Danette) Gesler, Lisa (Jerry) Hasse, Sara (Eric) Prather, Nathan (Leah) Gesler, Jenee Gesler, and Claire Collier; and 14 great-grandchildren as well; her sisters-in-law, Grace Collins and Norine Collins, also several nieces and nephews. Age 65, passed away at home on October 28, 2008 after a courageous, four-year battle with multiple myeloma. Joe was born May 8, 1943, to Joseph and Clara (Coopersmith) Anderson in Detroit. He graduated in 1961 from Sacred Heart High School in Roseville and in 1962 from Weaver Airline School in Kansas City. He worked for Eastern Airlines in Baltimore and Willow Run before crossing over to the construction trade. He was a long-time drywall contractor (Associated Drywall) in the greater Ann Arbor area. On May 10, 1968, he was united in marriage to Annette Henk in Mount Clemens. They have two daughters, Brenda (Dave) Sizer of Mount Lake Terrace, WA, and Carol (Jerry) Reinhardt of Bellvue, CO. Joe led an elegantly simple life and was well known for his even temperament, great sense of humor, and passion for billiards. He played pool for local leagues, was a member of the Moose Lodge, and competed in several BCA tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was a sports fan of all Detroit and University of Michigan teams. In addition to his wife and daughters, Joe is survived by his sister Beverly (Patrick) Stone, his brother Thomas (Patricia) Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his best friend Orval Forbes and many life-long friends. Joe was loved and respected by all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Clara, and Mary Louise (Buchheister) Anderson, and a brother Lawrence. Age 80 passed away on October 27, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Greene and Elizabeth (Risner) Cole on August 11, 1928 in Salyersville, Kentucky. On February 7, 1953 she married Alton L. Parsons and he preceded her in death in 1975. Dollberta ’Oma’ loved to can, work in her flower beds, and enjoyed music and dancing. Most of all she loved to be with her family especially her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Doug (Debbie) Parsons of Arlington, TX, Karen (Paul) Lehman of Chelsea, and Sharon (Erin) Parsons of Grass Lake, four grandchildren Brandon (Annie) Miller, Sarah Parsons, Stacy Miller, and Matthew (Marla) Parsons, three great grandchildren Makayla, Brodey and Conner, as well as her sisters Anna (Bill) Aaron of Clinton and Wavalene Cole of Chelsea. Age 80 passed away on October 27, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Greene and Elizabeth (Risner) Cole on August 11, 1928 in Salyersville, Kentucky. On February 7, 1953 she married Alton L. Parsons and he preceded her in death in 1975. Dollberta ’Oma’ loved to can, work in her flower beds, and enjoyed music and dancing. Most of all she loved to be with her family especially her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Doug (Debbie) Parsons of Arlington, TX, Karen (Paul) Lehman of Chelsea, and Sharon (Erin) Parsons of Grass Lake, four grandchildren Brandon (Annie) Miller, Sarah Parsons, Stacy Miller, and Matthew (Marla) Parsons, three great grandchildren Makayla, Brodey and Conner, as well as her sisters Anna (Bill) Aaron of Clinton and Wavalene Cole of Chelsea. A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Tim Brokaw officiating. For three and a half years Tom was a patient of Dr. Francis Worden at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. Dr. Worden treated Tom with dignity and respect. Together they shared a special bond between Dr. and patient and an awesome sense of humor. Tom was born in Stockbridge on February 21, 1944, the son of Donald D. and Bess A. (Cosgray). Tom was a 1964 graduate of Stockbridge High School. He was employed at Diecast Corporation of Jackson for 27 years and retired in September of 1994. Tom enjoyed photography, music, and was proud to have been sober since August 10, 1978. He is survived by two brothers, William R. (Patricia) and Robert L., and one sister, Dianne (Terry) Outwater, all of Stockbridge. Tom had a large circle of wonderful friends including Steve, Mark, and Karen, whose friendship and love were special. He also enjoyed a special relationship with Audrey Martini. He was a deacon in his church, directed the Teen Club in the southern Michigan region, for the United Church of God, and also worked youth camps for his church. Most of all he was a loving son, brother, husband, father and uncle that will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his son Mark Andrew Vreeland II and his daughter Rachel Laurie' Vreeland. On December 5, 1936 in Ann Arbor, she married Howard Lee Bergman, and he preceded her in death in 1991. His hobbies followed, and they included motorcycle racing, bull-riding, fishing, and camping. He touched many lives and will never be forgotten. On June 20, 2003, he married Marcie Sue Bogardus in Dexter, and she survives. She moved from Kentucky to the area in 1946 and worked for Munith Products for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. Kathleen enjoyed playing Chinese checkers; playing cards, especially euchre; singing and she loved her grandchildren. Kathleen is survived by her son, Edward D. She moved from Kentucky to the area in 1946 and worked for Munith Products for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. Kathleen enjoyed playing Chinese checkers; playing cards, especially euchre; singing and she loved her grandchildren. Kathleen is survived by her son, Edward D. She grew up in Chicago while her father was a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago. Maggie was a creative person who enjoyed painting and writing children’s books. Her greatest joy was sharing her creativity with others. She collaborated with other artists in creating murals at Our Savior Lutheran Church and at the Cardiopulmonary Department at Chelsea Community Hospital. Maggie raised her family in Modesto, California where she had a number of valued and loving friends, always making friends easily. She was a member of Omega Nu Sorority and Stanislaus County Medical Society Alliance, actively involved in fund raising activities. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a kind heart and a good soul that will be greatly missed. Margaret is survived by her brother Robert (Virginia) Swanson of Appleton, WI. and children William (Wendy Wahl) Lee of Chelsea, Elizabeth Carella of CA and David (Marianne) Lee of CA. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and worked as a shipping clerk for Rockwell International, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He also served on the Chelsea Fire Department many years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping, traveling to Florida, swimming, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. On May 21, 1994 he married Kimberly L. Johnson, and she survives. Larry proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps after enlisting with his brother, M.D. Byrne. He enjoyed spending time at the coffee shop with his friends, playing softball and Black Jack. He was a member of the Manchester American Legion Post 117 and the Manchester VFW Post 10329. Larry was one of 11 children and never forgot where he came from. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jennifer (Craig) Pajak of Troy, Ryan (Jessica) Byrne of Novi, Marine LCpl. Taylor built a house in which they lived in for 15 years. Gertrude Molter Drouyor
Gertrude Molter Drouyor, 95, of Ann Arbor, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008. She was three weeks shy of her 96th birthday. She was born Gertrude Victoria Molter, October 3, 1912 in Pontiac MI to Leonard Nicholas and Helena Caroline Schoner Molter. She was the last survivor of their eleven children. Her husband Wendell Phillips Drouyor also predeceased her.
Gertrude graduated from Clarkston (MI) High School, then earned a bachelors degree from Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) and Cleary College. ’Mrs. Drouyor’ will be remembered as a role model by many young girls as a nine-year Brownie and Girl Scout leader of Troop 3 at St. Thomas School and as a 4-H leader. She also volunteered on the citywide and district levels of Girl Scouting, and the Ann Arbor Community Chest which later became the United Way. She was a bookkeeper and administrative secretary, retiring from the Bentley Library, Michigan Historical Collections at the University of Michigan. In addition to these roles, she assisted with the activities of the Friends of the Michigan Historical Collections. In her retirement she volunteered for the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and various organizations and ministries at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea including the Parish Council.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Lenore DeCamp and son-in-law Samuel Tolken DeCamp; grandsons, Ralph Charles Belknap and John Phillip Belknap and granddaughter-in-law Kelly Evans Belknap. Arrangements are being handled by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 North Main Street, Chelsea MI. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being recited at 7:30. The funeral mass will be Celebrated Monday, September 15, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation preceding at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Margaret Mauceri Callan; their 13 children: Dr. Margaret (Dr. Jonathan) Lane of Chelsea; Peter Callan of New Jersey; Kristen (Kenneth) Ritson of New Jersey; Tara (Joseph) Kerr of Kansas; Kelley (Matthew) Moleski of New Jersey; Katie Callan of New York; Monica Callan of Ireland; Robert P. Callan, Jr. of Connecticut; Anthony Callan of New Jersey; Shana Callan of Chelsea; Christopher Callan of Pennsylvania; Michael Callan of Chelsea; and Mary Callan of Kansas; and 20 grandchildren. He is the son of Anne (Moran) Callan of Queens Village, New York and the late Peter Oliver Callan. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret (William) Devlin of New York and Anne (John) Connaughton of Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews. He loved grocery shopping, cooking and Fox News political coverage. His wife was the great love of his life and their family was his entire world. Santa Mary Algeo passed away peacefully, on September 7, 2008. She was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, December, 1913, the daughter of Joseph LoFaso and Veronica Cascio. In June 1937, she married James W. Algeo, in Oak Park, Illinois. They were married 68 years, until his death in January, 2006. They lived in Oconomowoc, WI, Bloomington MN, and after her husband’s retirement in 1976, they divided their time between Scottsdale, AZ, and Namakan Lake, Ontario, Canada. Since her husband’s death, Santa has been with her daughter in Ann Arbor and Chelsea, MI. Santa was a loving wife and mother, and her vocation in life was in making a home for her husband and children. She had four children: Santa Traugott (Michael) of Ann Arbor, MI; James M. Algeo of Bloomington, MN ; Susan Kirk (Charles) of Albuquerque, NM, and Katherine Seeley, who died in 1953, and whom she never ceased to mourn. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Elisabeth Traugott (James Rickett); Christopher Traugott, Susan Fellers, Erik Lough, Theresa Bright (Jason), and Kathryn Algeo. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Lila and Francesca Rickett, and Amaru Cobb and Maden Bright. Her parents and six brothers and sisters predeceased her, and she is survived, in addition to her children, by nieces and nephews in New Orleans, LA., and Hattiesburg, MS, as well as by her beloved poodle, Bon-Bon, and her later life companion and friend, Reme Tillman. She met life’s joys and adversities with dignity and courage. She was the kindest of women, adored by her husband, and loved by all those who came to know her. Services for her are pending, and will be held in Oconomowoc, WI at the Schmidt-Barteldt Funeral Home, with internment to follow in St. Jerome’s Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea, MI and Schmidt-Barteldt Funeral Home in Oconomowoc. On March 14, 1997 he married Patricia E. Hillard in Chelsea, MI and she survives. Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband. He enjoyed fishing, boating and navigating via astrological charts. He was very proud of his tractor and loved his time in his workshops, working on his antique cars. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his daughter Michele A. Berry of Gregory, his grandchildren Susan Kowzlan, James Cantley, Noria Mowrer, Anna Engle Rachel Engle, Caleb Engle and Robert Mentzler as well as great grandchildren Jacob and Michael Cantley and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Montomery in 1993, daughter Sandra Kay Montgomery Cantley, as well as his brother George Montgomery and his sister Ruby Bremer. Age 84, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at home after a long illness. He was born on June 20, 1924 in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Joseph and Ethel (Elliott) Sullivan, Sr. Mr. Sullivan graduated from Battle Creek High School. After serving in Europe in World War II, he furthered his education receiving a BBA from Western Michigan University. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He was an Executive Vice President for Hoover Universal in Saline for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Elk’s Lodge in Howell. Mr. Sullivan was also a Life Scout and a Kentucky Colonel. He also was a board member of the Huron Valley National Bank (Comerica). On August 9, 1947 he married Dorene A. Haab, and she preceded him in death on March 6, 1987. Surviving are their three children, James (Barbara) Sullivan of Traverse City, Charles (Barbara) Sullivan of Grass Lake, and Laura (Bill) Cassell of Grass Lake. He is also survived by one son-in-law, Norm Paton of Chelsea. On January 17, 1995 he married Peggy House Gardner and she survives. Her children are Gilbert Gardner of California, Claude Gardner of California, Catharine Buck of Indiana, Elizabeth Roos of Traverse City, and George Gardner of California. He is survived by one brother, Charles E. Sullivan of Battle Creek, and two sisters, Mary Jane Poole of Oxford, ME and Ruth Walz of Grand Blanc. Joseph is also survived by his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and by Peggy’s ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lana J. She was a 4-H leader; Sunday school teacher; loved dancing and going to the race track; milking cows and working on the farm. She was a waitress at the Stage Stop from 1989 to 2006. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Evadene is survived by her children Brian P. (Cindy) Sommer of Webberville, MI and Doug (Terry) Sommer of Stockbridge, MI. She later went to McPherson School of Nursing under President Kennedy’s Manpower program. She worked briefly at the VA and then spent 30 + years at the U of M Medical Center, first as a Cardiothoracic Nurse and later as a Dialysis Nurse. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Elwyn Schiller, her daughter, Lucy, and son, Chuck. She is survived by her daughter Audie Hampshire of Portland, Oregon, and son Neil Schiller (Diane) of Bloomingdale, MI. She is also survived by Leroy Schiller, son of former husband, grandson Erik (Steve) Hedenskog, granddaughters Jessica Schiller, Monica (Scotty) Wren, and Andrea (Wael) Shibly. Sue had lived in the area since the mid 1960’s. For 29 years she worked for Jiffy Milling Company in Chelsea, Michigan. She loved to cook, visit with friends, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. On June 16, 1961 she married Jimmy D. Mosley in Kentucky, and he survives. Sue had lived in the area since the mid 1960’s. For 29 years she worked for Jiffy Milling Company in Chelsea, Michigan. She loved to cook, visit with friends, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. On June 16, 1961 she married Jimmy D. Mosley in Kentucky, and he survives. Age 98, passed away Sunday July 27, 2008 at Country Heritage Adult Care in Dansville. He was born on December 29, 1909 in White Oak Township the son of Henry and Emma (Howell) Sheathelm. Orla lived in the Dansville area all his life and was an active farmer for many years. He was one of the oldest members of the Millville United Methodist Church.
He loved to travel, plant trees, cut wood and work in his garden. He spent a lifetime planting and nurturing trees - maintaining the philosophy of planting a tree for each one removed. His efforts have resulted in farmland woodlots full of trees along with bulbs and shrubs he also planted. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and that he loved to work! Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Thompson of South Haven; Janice (John) Smith of Hartford; Cheryl (Charles) Tobey of Battle Creek and Mary Mangles of Dansville; three sons, Harold (Laurene) Sheathelm; Dorwin (Kathy) Sheathelm and David (Karen) Sheathelm all of Dansville; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; also one sister June Stover of Williamston as well as several nieces and nephews. His brother Stoddard Martin of Bellwood, PA predeceased him. His family moved to Webster Groves, MO in 1939. In 1940, he met Margaret (Pat) Roth through the Webster Groves Presbyterian Church where her father taught Sunday School. On August 2, 1944, they were married there. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, his children: Nancy M. (Bernard, deceased) Podurgiel of Norwich, CT, Sallie M. (Steven) Foley of Ann Arbor, MI, Martha M. (Christopher) Conner of El Cerrito, CA and David R. (Nicole) Martin of Bellaire, MI, his grandchildren: Rebecca P. Ramirez, Bernard J. Podurgiel, Debra P. Wilson and Jennifer A. Podurgiel, Jessica, Lauren, and Robert Foley, Whitaker and Margaret Martin, Bryce and Connor Chapman, and four great-grandchildren. Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army as a staff sergeant in the Philippines during WW II. His career with Caterpillar Tractor Company began in Peoria, IL, and included moves to Jacksonville, FL, Potomac, MD and St. Louis, MO. He specialized in the sales and installation of diesel power generation units. For many years, Bob was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher in the Presbyterian church. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor, an associate member of the Church in the Hills (Presbyterian), Bellaire, MI and, at the time of his passing, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chelsea. As a youth, Bob was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. His life-long love of sailing began as a Sea Scout in that organization and continued with the summer tradition of enjoying Torch Lake, Michigan. He was an active member of the Torch Lake Yacht & Country Club, serving on the board of directors and as commodore. He created a curriculum and initiated a sailing school there. In retirement Bob and Pat moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he volunteered as a SCORE counselor. In 2003, they moved to Silver Maples Senior Retirement Community in Chelsea, MI. He enjoyed tennis, skiing and blacksmithing. In recent years, he volunteered each summer at YMCA Camp Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake, a wilderness adventure camp for boys and young men. He married Idell Esther Roden, and they were married over fifty years. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2006. Eunice and her first husband, Wayne, were Co-owners of the Millville Store since 1946, purchasing the store from the Wilcox family. She was a former member of the Millville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was involved in United Methodist Women. She was also a former White Oak Township Elections Day Board Committee participant, as well as past secretary for the North West Stockbridge Cemetery and the Extension Club. She was a member of Vantown Community Church and enjoyed sewing, knitting, yard work, gardening, crosswords and bird watching. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn (John) Sullivan of Lansing, Ellen (Skip) Stanton of Williamston, and Mary Lou (Gaylord) Risch of Williamston, and seven step-children; six grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Brooks, Rodney Pfiester, Brandon (Crystal) Waggoner, Derik Waggoner, Christopher Stanton, Paul (Kara) Stanton, and many step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Meranda, Jordan, Quinn, Baylee, Emily, Lily, Grant, Ava, and many step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Surviving are one daughter Sharon (Jonathon) Tenney of Waterloo Twp., two sisters, Barbara (Lorry) Huested of Newaygo, and Bonnie (Jack) Flood of Lansing; one brother-in-law Richard Lambert, of Haslett; and two grandchildren, Olivia Tenney and Mitchell Tenney. John was a nature lover and enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing for anything that would bite his line and he enjoyed all his dogs. Most of all he loved his children and all of their activities. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta (Miller) Marzec, six sons, Christopher, Timothy (Mary), Jonathan (Kathy), Matthew, Damian (Mary), and Patrick (Darlene), and one daughter, Madonna (Denny Perkins). He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. He was so proud of his 17 grandchildren, Christopher Marzec, Michael (TOA) Marzec, April (Patrick) Murphy, Joseph Marzec, Jeremy Marzec, Hayley Marzec, Jonathan Jr. Marzec., C.J., Levi, Daniel Perkins, Maria Perkins, Richard Perkins, John Marzec, Eric Marzec, Joshua Marzec, Aaron Marzec, Stephanie Marzec, and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Christopher. Joseph was in WW II in the Air Corp as B-29 pilot. He went to college on the GI bill and graduated from Michigan State College. Joseph loved sports and was an avid Spartan fan. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Chelsea, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008, with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Livingston Co. St. Joseph Mercy Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Joseph was in WW II in the Air Corp as B-29 pilot. He went to college on the GI bill and graduated from Michigan State College. Joseph loved sports and was an avid Spartan fan. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Chelsea, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008, with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Livingston Co. St. Joseph Mercy Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Age 90, passed away at the Chelsea Retirement Community on June 23, 2008. He was born February 24, 1918 in Bardstown, Kentucky the son of William Boone and Susan Celeste (Burch) Clements. She was born September 1, 1922, in Oakland County to Clifford and Helen (Jones) Skinner and preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Kathleen and Alice, and grandson Nathan Weddon. Willah was the loving wife of Edward R. Weddon, MD and mother of five children: sons Todd (Carol) of Vicksburg, MI, Bradley (Kim) of Huntington Beach, CA, Alex (Colleen) of Chelsea, MI, and two daughters Patrice (James) Johnson of Dansville, MI, and Amy (Terry) Tomlin of Fowlerville, and numerous grand and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Captain, USN (Ret) Clifford A. Skinner of Honolulu, Hawaii. Willah, a long-time resident of Stockbridge, was valedictorian of her Comstock high school class and graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree. She founded and for ten years operated the Women’s News Bureau with offices at the state capital and interviewed Ronald Reagan, Robert Kennedy, Pat Nixon, every Michigan governor seated since the late 1940’s and many other heads of state, public officials and personalities. Willah won more than 82 first place state awards and 13 national awards for her writing. She was author of seven books and twice named the Michigan Press Woman of Achievement. In 1994 the Michigan State Legislature adopted a Joint Resolution recommending that all Michiganians read her books. She loved her farmhouse, woods and lake where she spent many wonderful afternoons with family gatherings. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, optimism and love for her family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stockbridge United Methodist Church with The Rev. Larry Rubingh officiating. Age 87, passed away at this home surrounded by his family on June 10, 2008. Ray Porter was born July 2, 1920 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada the son of William and Mary (Hannah) Porter. Ray served during World War II in the US Army and the Canadian Air Force. He married Shirley Marsh on November 27, 1942 in Ann Arbor. He worked as an Operating Engineer for 30 years. He was a very active member of Webster United Church of Christ in Dexter for over 50 years. Ray loved fishing, hunting and trailering with his friends and family. Ray is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 65 years, and his two children Jacqueline (Ronald) Lee of Vassar, and Wm. John (Holly) Porter of Manchester. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Laura, (Daniel) Stone of Frankenmuth, Matthew (Brooke) Lee of Fenton, Justin (Kate) Porter of Manchester, Jessica (Matthew) Doletzky of Grass Lake, and Julie Porter (Bill McCullough) of Lima, Ohio, as well as eight great-grandchildren, Danny, Nathan, Jon, Stephanie, Anna, Zachary, Jacob and Jordyn. On August 9, 1986 in Stockbridge he married Karin Lindquist and she survives. Laurence loved the outdoors especially deer hunting with his sons and going to the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club. Family and friends were most important to him. Age 51 passed away at home with his family by his side on May 31, 2008. He was born the son of Laurence P. and Mary (Dietzel) Watko on October 9, 1956 in Washington D.C. On August 9, 1986 in Stockbridge he married Karin Lindquist and she survives. Laurence loved the outdoors especially deer hunting with his sons and going to the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club. Family and friends were most important to him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons Joshua and Jeffery both of Chelsea as well as his mother of Englewood, Florida, his brother Michael Watko of Englewood, Florida, and his sisters Debra (John) Watson of California and Jennifer (Scott) Davis of Ramona, California along with many nieces and nephews. Virginia Valdeen Dietle ’Ginny ’
Of Chelsea, MI
Age 83, passed away peacefully June 7, 2008 at the Chelsea Retirement Community, Towsley Village, with her loving family at her side. Ginny was born Virginia Valdeen Thayer on August 6, 1924, the daughter of Buell and Grace (Schenk) Thayer, in Ann Arbor, MI. She lived in Dearborn, graduating from Dearborn High in 1942, and then attended Eastern Michigan University. Ginny married Larry Dietle on August 5, 1944 in Chelsea, Michigan. They lived in Chelsea their entire married life except for two years during World War II. Ginny was a member of St. Paul ’s United Church of Christ and sang in the choir for 35 years. She was a Child Study Club Honorary and belonged to several bridge groups. Larry and Ginny started and operated MacDee, Inc. in Chelsea in 1964, retiring in 1988. Ginny was preceded in death by her mother in 1954, and her husband of 58 years, Lawrence Dietle, in 2002. She is survived by her son David (Teresa) Dietle, of Australia, Joan (Ron) Howell and Carole (Gary) Zenz, all of Chelsea. In addition, she has five loving grandchildren: Laurie Wolfe, Carrie Dietle, Paul, Jeff, and Sara Zenz, and three great-grandchildren: Elise, Carly and Trenton Wolfe. The family would like to thank the staff at both Towsley and Silver Maples for their compassionate care. Ginny was a loving and gentle wife, mother and grandmother. Her beauty and grace will be remembered and cherished by her family forever. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, where friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. She was born on November 25, 1918 in Chelsea, Michigan the daughter of William and Margaret (Null) Birch. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, also belonging to the Alter Society. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Harriet Birch, as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. Frank Visel, three brothers, James, William, and Louis Birch, and two sisters, Cecilia Neal and Mary Ritter. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner presiding. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. Holton H. Knisely
Of Dexter, Michigan
Age 91, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born on June 12, 1916 in Channing, Michigan the son of Holton and Myrtle (Hagerman) Knisely. Mr. Knisely had lived in the area since 1929. He was a member of North Lake United Methodist Church and owned and operated K and E Screw Products Company for 23 years. He truly enjoyed the out of doors, including bird watching, gardening and tree planting. He also enjoyed reading, playing the harmonica, and woodworking. His mission work in Ecuador in the maintenance shop gave him much gratification. For nearly 72 years he was married to Mildred E. Noah who preceded him in death just only seven days ago. May they both rest in peace. Surviving are four children, Lorna (James) Eberts of Tawas City, David (Janet) Knisely of Chelsea, Eric (Beth Ann) Knisely of Dexter and Beth Emilie (Michael) Folts of Grass Lake; eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Saralu (Gordon) Chamberlain of Lansing; and his loyal dog Twinkle. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Bachrach and Rhoda Knisely. A memorial service will be Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Towsley Chapel, Chelsea Retirement Community, where friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. Knisely’s funeral will be Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Lake Methodist Church, with Rev. Alice Sheffield officiating. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Thursday from 6-8 P.M. Burial will be at North Lake Cemetery.
