Catherine Berjeski
of Chelsea, Mi.

Age 91, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at Chelsea Retirement Community, Towsley Village. She was born on March 29, 1916 in Portage, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Michael and Marianna (Dlubacz) Goldyn. Catherine had lived in the area since 1976 coming from Detroit. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for many years. In her teenage years she was a maid in Steubenville, Ohio for Dean Martin’s mother. Mrs. Crocetti was Catherine mentor at her first Communion. On October 8, 1938 in Adena, Ohio she married Walter F. Berjeski and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2006. Surviving is one son, W. Ronald (Marilynn) Berjeski of Dearborn, and two daughters, Janice (James) Coffman of Stockbridge and Joan (Russell) Peer of New Baltimore, Mi., one sister-in-law, Josephine Goldyn of Dearborn, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by one son, David Berjeski, five brothers and one sister. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday July 31, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Mary Catholic Church , Chelsea with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner presiding. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Chelsea. Louis J.J. Goderis, Jr.
Chelsea, MI

Age 71 passed away July 20, 2007 at his home after an unexpected and short battle with liver cancer. He was born February 13, 1936, in Pontiac, MI, the son of Louis and Irma (Herremans) Goderis. He was trained as a cartographer in the U.S. Army and was active from 1960 to 1962 and a reservist for four more years. He married Barbara (Brown) Goderis on September 15, 1962 who survives him. He is survived by his children, Jon (Roxanne) Goderis, Laura Goderis and Mark (Helen) Goderis. He is also survived by the grandchildren he adored Lacy, Dominick, Derek and Paige. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Richard. His sister RoseMarie (Dan) Cherry and many nieces and nephews survive him. His education came from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and a Master of Science degree in 1973. He retired from Federal Mogul, Ann Arbor, MI, in 1986. He was a Mechanical Engineer by training, but he had the heart of an artist. He was well known for thinking and living ’outside the box.’ A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Dexter on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ’The Goderis Family Scholarship Fund’ a scholarship to benefit students of Chelsea and Dexter High Schools. Irene G. Hogan
OF Chelsea, MI

Age 90, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born February 3, 1917 the daughter of Homer and Eva (Widmayer) Stofer. Irene had lived in the Chelsea area most of her life, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1935. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and was on the Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years. On Sept. 11, 1948 she married William C. Hogan, and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Kathryn Ann Sprawka, as well as her sister-in-law Helen Hogan. She is survived by her loving family members, Jason (Deborah) Sprawka of Philadelphia, PA, Benjamin Smith, Cheri Smith, and Charlie (his fiancé Mary) Sprawka, all of Chelsea, Mrs. Harold (Alga) Widmayer, of Pickford, MI as well as several cousins. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Thomas D. Basore Sr.
Of Wellington, Florida
Formerly of Stockbridge, Michigan

Age 68, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. Tom was born August 1, 1938 in Stockbridge, MI the son of David M. and Causby (Haney) Basore. He loved sports of any kind, and lettered in four sports for three of his High School years. He also loved golf, farming, gambling (and he was good at it), and most of all, his family, especially his grandkids. Tom was the type of person who put others before himself. He always needed to know what was going on and how everyone was doing. He was a silent philanthropist and an eternal optimist. He was a devoted Christian, and was a member of Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church in Bunker Hill, Michigan. He was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge BPOE 1716 for 31 years.
Tom was Supervisor to TKM-Bengard Farms, otherwise known as Basore Farms, the largest family owned lettuce growing operation east of the Mississippi River. He was a pioneer and industry leader in the fresh cut salad industry. He received the Michigan Onion Award in 1960, the Founder’s Club Award, and was the Award Winner of the Fresh Market and Fresh Cut Industry.
Tom is survived by his first wife, Marcia, of Wellington, FL and their six children: Thomas Basore Jr., Tobin (Melissa Sullivan) Basore, Michael (Tammy) Basore, and Stephen (Krista Springer) Basore, all of Wellington, FL; also Brian (Renee) Basore and Kevin (Tammy) Basore, all of Stockbridge, MI. Also surviving are his second wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Noelle (fiance Greg Baltazar) of Wellington, FL, thirteen grandkids, one sister Shirley Basore of Pompano Beach, FL, and one sister-in-law Bev Basore of Stockbridge. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Basore and Donald Basore.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church in Bunker Hill with Rev. Fr. Michael Petroski officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge. Infant son of Dean and Beth (Paddock) Boote, passed away Tuesday morning July 10, 2007. He was born on June 29, 2007 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jake is survived by his parents, his sister, Grace Boote age 6, paternal grandparents, John (Anna) Boote of Chelsea, maternal grandparents William (Veronica) Paddock of Dexter, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be Friday, July 13, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with the Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Leigh A. Tallman
of Manchester, MI

A tragic accident took the life of a wonderful, daughter, sister, mother, friend and educator. Leigh Tallman died July 9, 2007 with nature and the beauty of her farm all around her. Leigh was the daughter of Carolyn Kosko Pell. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Buryl Tallman and her step father Patrick Pell. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 6, 1948. Leigh was the beloved sister of Janice (Tallman) Brzezinski and Michael Brzezinski and niece Megan and nephew Matthew of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Patty and John Tallman of Cleveland, Ohio and nieces Bethany Tallman and Cara Abangan (Romeo Abangan) She is survived by her stepbrother George Kosko and his sister Mary Lou Kosko and special cousins Pam and Ed Harrah, Grosse Point, Michigan and Mont and Barb Miller, Carsons, West Virginia. Also surviving are her sons Zachary Maghes and Jordan Tallman of Manchester, Michigan and a multitude of friends and loved ones: Sharon, Dana and Andrea and family, as well as Al Maghes and his family. Leigh, a life long Artist and Dancer, graduated with her B.S. degree from Miami of Ohio University and received her M.A. and M.S. degrees from Eastern Michigan University. Leigh was an educational diagnostician and a specialist in assistive technology for special needs students. She began her career in Ohio teaching Health and physical education. She taught at Lincoln Consolidated Schools, Ypsilanti MI and for the past 30 years with the Van Buren Public Schools, in Belleville Michigan. She was an instructor at Marygrove University for the past 8 years. Leigh had a tremendous impact on all who knew her. She brought joy and warmth and energy to each encounter. She was a generous loving woman whose compassion and sensitivity will continue to be felt by all who knew her. Her interest in conflict resolution and her commitment to human rights was evidenced in her participation with The National Challenge Day, Council for Exceptional Children, Special Olympics, Orten Gillingham Foundation and many other social issues. She had a delightful sense of humor and whimsy. She was a wonderful, thoughtful Mother who insisted on self reliance for her family: She could fell a tree, build a cabin, ride, rope and corral not just her horses, but her children, excitable students, their parents and her friends. In her own quiet and subtle manner she could quell an upset parent and acknowledge their concerns and reach a cool, calm and collected consensus. Those who worked beside her feel a deep and abiding gratitude for her talents. Leigh was involved in her community and was a strong supporter of Manchester Sports and Academic programs. She attended every football, basketball and sporting event working hard to support all students in their efforts. She lived each day with grace and ease and confidence in the endless capacity of human fellowship and the beauty of nature. Formerly of Munith, Mi. Age 77, went to be with her Lord Saturday July 7, 2007 at Salyersville Rehabilitation Center. She was born on February 17, 1930 in Magoffin County, Ky., the daughter of Magoffin (Goff) and Madell (Rudd) Rowe. On August 25, 1945 shemarried Roscoe (Buck) Cole in Stockbridge, and he preceded her in death on May 21,1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Shirley, infant daughter Brenda, sons, Kevin and Keith, and grandsons Randall, Wendall, and Calvin, also sister Grethel and a brother N.H. Rowe. Surviving are son’s, Russell (Debbie) Cole of Jackson, Rickie (Charlene) Cole of Stockbridge, Bryan (Debbie) Cole ofStockbridge., and daughters, Sharon (Gary) Pierson of DeWitt, Mi., Cathy (Dennis) Marshall of Stockbridge, Karen (Darrell) Howard of Salyersville, Ky., her son in lawLarry Aton of Rock Hill S. Carolina and a very special daughter in law Debbie Cole of Munith. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren and thirty three greatgrandchildren. Her sister in laws, Myrtle (Cole) Prater of Munith, MI., Pearlie (Sparks) Cole of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Sylvia (Cole, Fletcher) Johnson of Marshall, Mi., Crystal was a homemaker who loved gardening and embroidering. She took specialpride in her home and family and was known by all as ’Mom Cole’. She was a lifetime member of the Church of God. Mom Cole was very much loved and will be dearly missedby many. Lillian M. Snay
Of Munith

Age 68 passed away at her home on July 8, 2007. She was born the daughter of John C. and Augustina V. (Masa) Gretch on July 28, 1938 in Detroit, MI. She was married to William R. Snay and he preceded her in death in 2001. Lillian loved the Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church where she was a member. She also enjoyed camping, horses and playing with her grandchildren. Lillian is survived by her mother, son Todd (Beth) Snay of Munith along with her three grandchildren Jessica, Johnathon and Ashley. Also surviving is her brother John (Betty) Gretch of Ubly, MI; her sisters Mary (John) Dowling of Tecumseh, MI and Ellenor Murphy of Albuquerque, NM as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Christopher Michael Snay. Funeral services will be held at the Caskey-Mitchell funeral home on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael A. Petrosky officiating. Daniel T. Ellenwood
Of Chelsea

Age 64, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MI. He was born on August 3, 1942, the son of George and Lorine (Brown) Ellenwood. He had lived in the Chelsea area his entire life, graduating from Chelsea High School in 1961. He retired from Chrysler Proving Grounds in 1998 after 30 years of service; however, he will be most remembered by the service he gave the Chelsea Community as a leader in the Chelsea Area Fire Authority. He became involved in the Chelsea Fire Department in 1967 and served the department for forty years. He retired as Chief of the Chelsea Area Fire Authority in 2005. He was also a dispatcher for the Chelsea Police Department, a member of the Michigan Firefighters Training Council, a First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross, as well as a CPR Instructor and Fire Inspector. He was passionate about firefighting, and was known and loved by the Community as Chief Ellenwood. Dan was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to fish. He cherished his family, and will be dearly missed by all. On June 25, 1966 he married Alexandra Ereston, and together they had two sons, Daniel Jr. (Dani) Ellenwood of Portage Lake, and Michael (Peggy Cote) Ellenwood of Chelsea, and they all survive; also surviving are his mother Lorine Ellenwood, of Chelsea; eight grandchildren; five sisters Susie Kiner, Sharon Biggs, Sandy (Mac) Davis, Sally Ellenwood, and Paula (Tony) Clark, all of Chelsea; his former mother-in-law Josephine Ereston, of Munith, his second wife, Deborah, and Deborah's three children: Stewart McMillan, David Boss, and Danny Boss, all of Munith. He was preceded in death by his father, George Ellenwood, and a brother-in-law William Kiner. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
