The Sauve’ Family and the Stockbridge Community mourns the loss of two very fine young men. Devin and Kade Sauve’ died in a car accident early Monday morning, March 19, 2007, on their way to school. Born in Lansing, Devin (June 25, 1990) and Kade (May 5, 1994) were the sons of Michael Sauve’ and Jill (Coakley) Sauve’. Devin and Kade were loving brothers; great sons; friends to all; competitive athletes; and quality young men who touched the lives of many. They were loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing them. Devin, a sophomore at Stockbridge High School, was a member of the Varsity Wrestling Team with an outstanding record of 95 and 12. He was also a contributing member of the Stockbridge Cross Country team, Track team and the JV Soccer team. Devin’s goal was to earn 12 letters to grace his Varsity Jacket tying or passing the school record. Elected by his sophomore class, Devin was Coming Home King of 2007. Devin belonged to the Freestyle Wrestling Club where in addition to competing, he coached and taught young kids the basics of wrestling. He enjoyed fishing, spending time in the out-of-doors and living off the land. Last summer he completed a 3 week Outward Bound course in the North Carolina Mountains - an experience he felt was life altering. Devin had a wonderful sense of humor, was outgoing and friendly as evidenced by his infectious smile, and was well liked and respected by all. Kade was an honor roll student in the sixth grade at the Stockbridge Middle School. Following in the footsteps of his big brothers, Kade belonged to the Free Style Wrestling Club where he was rapidly developing a reputation as an up-and-coming wrestling talent. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, and cross country running. Despite his young age, Kade gave 110 percent to any activity he pursued. He was a very caring and generous 12 year old boy who helped with many tasks around the home and in his school. He truly had a heart of gold. Devin and Kade, along with their brother, Kyle, were the pride and joy of their father, Michael. They gave their dad a will to live despite a serious illness requiring an organ transplant last year. As tissue and heart valve donors, we hope Kade and Devin’s spirits will be with us as they help others live another day. The boys brought their mother, Jill, and their half-sister, Tessa great joy as well. They were instrumental in helping them through some pretty rough times these past 4 years. Both Devin and Kade helped make their home town of Stockbridge a wonderful place to live and gave back to their community. People who knew the Sauve’ boys frequently commented what good boys they were, and that they were welcome at their homes at any time. Always with a smile on their faces, they brightened those around them with their genuine caring and compassion - never leaving anyone out. Surviving are their parents, brother Kyle N. Sauve’ of Stockbridge, half-sister Tessa Innes of Pleasant Lake; grandparents Bernadine G. Spry of Dewitt, and Jean Coakley of Stockbridge; aunts and uncles, Michelle (Garret) Peaslee of Kalamazoo, and Corey (Greg) Pena of Stockbridge; and several cousins, friends and neighbors. They were preceded in death by grandparents Neil E. Sauve’, Donald Coakley, and Kirk Spry. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stockbridge High School Gymnasium with Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop, Rev. Robert Freysinger, and Rev. Brian Johnson officiating. Leah Lee
Age 95, died at her home in Chelsea with her daughter at her side on Monday, March 19, 2007, after a two year journey dealing with the effects of a stroke. She was born the daughter of Minden and L.C. (Sutton) Miller on July 12, 1911 in LaGro, Indiana. Leah met the love of her life, Jack (John Edward) Lee, in Jackson, Michigan, and they were married May 16, 1931 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jackson. Jack preceded her in death on April 22, 1980. Leah worked throughout her life helping others, as a physician’s assistant, wife, mother and caregiver to many, especially her mother, L.C., in her final years. After her husband became an Episcopal priest, she was an active part of his ministry, serving on various church guilds, including his first church, St. Barnabas, in Chelsea where she was a current member. Prior to residing in Chelsea, she lived in Venice, FL, moving permanently back to Chelsea in 2001. Leah was a member of the Red Hat Society (Pierce Lake) and a member of Chapter CH, PEO in Ann Arbor. In the past two years Leah was blessed with loving caregivers, including Dr. Jim Peggs, Mary Corey, Meghan Healy, Joanne Lidster, and Kathy Quinlan, as well as other professionals of Chelsea Community Hospital, United Methodist Retirement Community, Chelseacare Home Health and Arbor Hospice and Home Care. Leah is survived by her children Kay (Jack) Arthur of Chattanooga, TN, Jack (Judy) Lee, Jr. of Newberry, MI, and Judy (Michael) Nold of Chelsea, MI. Albert was a fan of wrestling, a hunter, won awards for demolition racing and was a motorcycle award winner. On December 11, 1993, in Jackson, MI., he married Karen E. Scheel and she survives. Also surviving are his parents of Fort Myers, FL; his children, Dennis (Melissa) Culvahouse, of Laporte, ID, Wendy (Ira Williams) Parker of Jackson, MI, Amanda (James) Wireman of Flint, MI, Tami Carpenter, of Jonesville, MI, Scarlatt Marlatt of Jackson, MI, Pammie Ginn Rutan of Jackson, MI, 12 grandchildren and three more on the way; four brothers, Bobby (Mildred) Marshall, Chester (Paula) Marshall, Timmy (Mary) Marshall and Dennis (Nancy) Walker; three sisters, Brenda Marshall, Cindy (JB) Adams and Linda (Miguel) Mata. She was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Reading, Crocheting, and wrote in her diary every day. Also a life member of Gideon’s International. Most of all she loved and cherished all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are two children, Richard (Marie) Stanfield of National City, MI, and Sharon (Richard) Lemorie of Howell, MI; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Rose was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening for vegetables and flowers, and canning what she had grown herself. She was also very proud of her farm girl upbringing, most of all she loved her family. Rose is survived by her children Steven (Denise) Dorer of Howell, Kevin (Angie) Dorer of Raceland LA, and Doreen Dorer of Dexter as well as grandchildren Kristin, Jeffrey Amber and Jason and great-grandchildren Kelby and Kendall. He was born on February 3, 1936 in Royalton , Kentucky the son of Hobert and Maxine (Marshall) Long. Bobby had lived in the area most of his life and was a member of the Church of Christ . A veteran serving in the United States Army from May of 1956 to March of 1958. He retired from the Dana Corporation in Chelsea. He enjoyed Golfing, Reading and spending time at Dixie’s cafe’. On July 21, 1956 he married Neva M. Fauser in Angola IN, and she preceded him in death. Surviving are four children, Janet Long and her partner Elizabeth Williams of Jackson , Sandra Craft of Stockbridge, Dana (Loran) Hyden of Grant AL, and David Long of Stockbridge. One brother Lawrence (Lila) Long of Stockbridge and one sister Deborah Carr of Stockbridge; as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren . He was also preceded in death by one son Frederick (Rob) Long, one daughter Rebecca C. Long, and one brother Pat Long. Age 70, passed away Sunday February 25, 2007 at the Sparrow Specialty Hospital in Lansing, Mi. He was born on June 7, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Clyde and Elsie (Gordon) Bradshaw. Edgar lived in the area since 6 years of age coming from the Detroit. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1955 and received his bachelors of science from Michigan State in 1976. He enjoyed reading, and all of his grandchildren. For almost 35 years he was a counselor for Jackson State prison and retired in 1997. On January 27, 1962 he married Helen L. Wilcox and she survives. Also surviving are Two children, Lori (Tom Diefenthaler) Horning of Pinckney, and Richard (Nora) Bradshaw of Comstock Park, Mi., seven grandchildren and Two great-grandchildren. Brother and sister-in-laws, Tom (Fran) Wilcox of Georgia, Janice Barnett of Leslie, Ron (Amy) Wilcox of Stockbridge, and David (Sharon) Wilcox of Grass Lake. One special Aunt Alice M. Age 52, passed away Monday February 26, 2007 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born on September 30, 1954 in Royalton, Kentucky the son of Accie and Ellaree (Marshall) Elloitt. Mo loved working at Michigan International Speed way for the maintenance department. Drag racing , fishing , cats and spending time with his family he truly loved. On June 11, 1999 he married Robin R. Ray and she survives, also surviving are his mother of Stockbridge, four children, Heather Elloitt of Mason, Janis (Brain) Bicy of Florida, Kasey Cook and Erick Cook all of Napoleon; six brothers and sisters, Von (Denise) Fletcher of Farwell, Preston Elloitt of Jackson, Ronnie Elloitt of Stockbridge, Bonnie (Dean) DeVoe of Harbor Creek, Clark Elloitt of Leesburg, FL and Penny Marshall of Stockbridge. Also survivibg are six grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by Father. He was born on September 30, 1954 in Royalton, Kentucky the son of Accie and Ellaree (Marshall) Elloitt. Mo loved working at Michigan International Speed way for the maintenance department. Drag racing , fishing , cats and spending time with his family he truly loved. On June 11, 1999 he married Robin R. Ray and she survives, also surviving are his mother of Stockbridge, four children, Heather Elloitt of Mason, Janis (Brain) Bicy of Florida, Kasey Cook and Erick Cook all of Napoleon; six brothers and sisters, Von (Denise) Fletcher of Farwell, Preston Elloitt of Jackson, Ronnie Elloitt of Stockbridge, Bonnie (Dean) DeVoe of Harbor Creek, Clark Elloitt of Leesburg, FL and Penny Marshall of Stockbridge. Also survivibg are six grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by Father. Saunders and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2006. On January 25, 1958 he married Carolene Allen and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2004. One year ago he married Edna Wilson and she survives. Don enjoyed collecting things of all kinds recently he liked jeeps and golf carts. He was also known to tell very tall stories to his grandchildren. He was also known to many people in the area as a very kind and giving person. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Edna, Don is survived by his children Donald Allen, Julie (Mick) Watters, Tracy (Jeff) Howard all of Stockbridge. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. On September 3, 1955 he was married to Mary Ann Wheeler who preceded him in death in 1996. On April 15, 1998, he married Dorothy J. Wright and she survives. Chuck retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking and making cradles for friends and family. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping turtles. Chuck enjoyed traveling up north to his cabin. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family, especially around the holidays. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Dorothy’s children: Diane Meyer of Plainwell, Donna (Jeff) Clifton of TN, Dawn (John) Bush of Allegan, David Meyer of Grand Rapids, Debra (James) Treece of Grand Rapids and Dennis (Cathy) Meyer of Grand Rapids, and 10 grandchildren. She enjoyed Reading, Euchre, Scrabble, watching Spanish language movies and especially playing card games with her grandchildren. Most of all she enjoyed her family and her faith. (Eubank) Pierce. On December 5, 1942 she married William W. Freeman in Detroit , Michigan. He preceded her in death in 1985. She had lived in the area since 1953. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chelsea and was active in the Deborah Women’s Circle. She was a volunteer for the Chelsea Hospital Auxiliary for several years. She enjoyed needlepoint and crewel work and loved being a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Freeman of Pinckney, Ruth Freeman of Chelsea, and William N. Freeman of Green Bay , Wisconsin ; grandchildren David and Rachel Stone, Emily and Rebecca Freeman; one great-grandchild, Piper Stone; one brother, William Pierce, of Chelsea , and one sister, Maxine Burris, of Newton , Iowa . Age 91 Died at the Jackson Country Side Care Facility on February, 9 2007. She was born the daughter of George and Stella (Benn) Lake on February 16, 1915 in Jackson Michigan. On February 16, 1936 in Jackson she married Estel V. Cornish and he was her one and only true love. They moved from Jackson to Stockbridge in 1948 when they became co-owners of Stockbridge Manufacturing. In 1966 they built a new home on Brogan Road which she loved dearly. Janice was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge, enjoyed gardening, making flower arrangements, plate collecting, playing cards, painting pictures, sewing, and bowling. Most of all she enjoyed going to her cabin at Thousand Island Lake and looking for drift wood and fishing. Her family was most important of all and Christmas was very special to her because that was when they were all together to enjoy one another’s company. She is survived by her son Gary (Nancy) Cornish, six grand children; Lisa (Dave) Osterholm, Gary Lee (Monica) Cornish, Ryan Cornish, Larry (Lisa) Cornish, Renee (Brian) Basore, Cindy (Dan) Kuhn, As well as 13 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Terry Cornish; her brothers George Lake and Stuart (Hazel) Lake; her sister Dorothy Furlong and her brother-in-law; special aunts Alice Riston, Myrna Harrison, Mary Zelmanski and Margie Blanchard. Age 54, died at the Chelsea Community Hospital on February 6, 2007. He was born the son of Norman and Phyllis (Davis) Thompson on December 17, 1952 in Southbend, Indiana. David loved to hunt, fish, run, ride horses, and the demolition derby. He enjoyed his work as a tree trimmer, and most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and grandkids. On January 2, 1976 he married Janet L. (Armstrong) in Clinton, MI, and she survives. Age 54, died at the Chelsea Community Hospital on February 6, 2007. He was born the son of Norman and Phyllis (Davis) Thompson on December 17, 1952 in Southbend, Indiana. David loved to hunt, fish, run, ride horses, and the demolition derby. He enjoyed his work as a tree trimmer, and most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and grandkids. On January 2, 1976 he married Janet L. (Armstrong) in Clinton, MI, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, David (Liz) Thompson and Marilyn (Will) Gilbert, all of Dansville, also T.J., Jeremiah, Desirae, Brent, Kelsey, and Jacob Christi, three grandchildren: Mariah, Robby, and Casey, his brothers and sisters: Dan Thompson, Doug (Joan) Thompson, and Nancy (Tim) Stanley, all of Stockbridge, Roger (Wendy) Thompson of Missouri, and Helen (Paul) Fitzpatrick of Munith, as well as his parents. Lois was a self taught Artist who delighted in painting meaningful images of interest for friends and family remembering her fondness of Lake Michigan’s shoreline. She married Charles M. Wenk in S. Lake Tahoe and had over 35 loving years together. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother of Chelsea; one sister Jennifer (Roland) Lubbinge of Elk Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews; two cousins, Barbara Golbinec of Toledo, and Edward Bolton of Kentucky; her mother-in-law Dorothy Wenk of Chelsea; brother and sister-in-laws, Donald and Paul Wenk, Marty (Carl) Hause, and Jean (Tom) Winans, Irene (Jim) Poley and Her Dog Otto. David had lived in the area since 1972. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960. He received his B.A. from Albion College in 1964 and continued his education at Wayne State University. He worked for Kelsey-Hayes, Addison products and Kent Moore Inc.as a Director of Industrial Relations totaling 30 years. He became a realtor working for 8 years with Hometown One Inc. in Chelsea. Passed on to him by his father, David loved the out of doors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a champion of educating young people about the wonders of the outdoors. He was a active member and former president of the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club. On September 11, 1965 he married Virginia E. Avison and she survives. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen J. Herter and she had three sons that were very dear to David and Ginny, James David Herter, his namesake, Christopher J. Herter, and Matthew E. Herter. Also surviving is one uncle James Sayre and numerous cousins, his mother and father-in-law, Larry (Virginia) Avison Jr, brother-in-laws, Lance (Judy) Avison, and Chris (Connie) Avison his children, three additional Nephews; Charles C. Avison, Curtis Barnes and Patrick O. Avison. Also a good friend Joan Birgy survives. A celebration of his life will be Friday, January 19, 2007 at 1:00 PM. At the Chelsea Rod and Gun Club. Age 68, loving wife of Bill for 48 years, passed away at home on December 25, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Leland and Edna (Fisher) Pratt on September 16, 1938 in Jackson, Michigan. On January 17, 1958 she married Bill G. Jackson, and he survives. Wanda enjoyed sewing, making crafts and hosting family parties at her house where she did all the cooking. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Douglas Jackson of Manchester, Mark (Terri) Jackson of TN, Randy (Dawn) Jackson of Manchester, Linda Kensler of Manchester, Cindy (Ron) Cowen of Chelsea, and Karen (Mike) Ball of Chelsea. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and her sisters, Katie (Clifford) McWilliams of AZ, Dorothy Wimberly of TN, Noami (Joe) Fritz of Wayne, MI, Bertha (Frank) Vandercook of Bellville, MI, Leola (Doyle) Kyle of AR, Barbara (Harley) Parker of AR, and her twin sister, Wilda Meithrew of TN. Died at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 85 on December 25. She was born the daughter of Albany M. and Alice (Helliwell) Benson on April 7, 1921 in Colwyn Bay, Wales, United Kingdom. On November 22, 1964 she married her second husband Dale E. Smeltzer and he survives. She loved traveling, the theater, she and her first husband were founding members of the Goshen Civic Theater, she was known for her ’world class’ apple pies, enjoyed knitting, and sewing. Daphne was also a very caring person who put others before herself, she loved her family and loved being with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Sandy (Tom) Leabu of Stockbridge, Kim Cramer of Traverse City, Caren Smeltzer of Portland, Oregon, Barry (Terri) Smeltzer of Avondale, AZ, Kathy (Milton) Grant of Goshen, IN; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Richard Cramer, and her brothers and sister. Age 41, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born on April 23, 1965 in Hendricks, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Carol (Gill) Morris. Todd graduated from Deubrook High School, White, South Dakota in 1983. Todd had lived in the area since 1991. He worked at Great Lakes Endodontics in Lansing as a Dental Technician. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the United Methodist Church of Stockbridge. Todd’s favorite pastimes were boating, hunting, and competing in Triathlon Competitions. On November 18, 1995 he married Susan B. Shollenberger, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Emma, age 10, and Lauren, age 6, his mother Carol, of Brookings, South Dakota, seven sisters, and four brothers: Robert L. Morris II (Susan), of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, Bud Morris (Bonnie), of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Debbie DeYoung (Gary) and their children, Amber, Stephanie and Stephen, of Brookings, South Dakota, Carolyn Schroeder and her children, Michael and Benjamin, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Tim Morris (Terri) and their children, Shane, Katie, and Chelsea, of Eagle, Colorado, Kathleen Monfore (Barry) and their children, Taeler, Ariel, Brooks, Tanner, and Dawson, of Pierre, South Dakota, Tammy Roelofsen (John) and their children, Jaimee, Jenna, and John Jr., of Toronto, South Dakota, Thomas Morris, of Watertown, South Dakota, Gayleen Morris and her children Michael, Matthew, Kahlen, and Chansley of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Betsy Morris and her children Dietrich, and Leith, of Novi, Michigan, and Jodi Goya and her children, Avery and Diesel, of Thornton, Colorado; he is also survived by his father-in-law, William (Kathy) Shollenberger of Toledo, Ohio and brother-in-law, William Shollenberger along with his children, William and Kimberly of MissionViejo, CA. Age 66, passed away Thursday December 21, 2006 at Ingham Medical Regional care facility Green Lawn Campus. He was born on February 17, 1940 in Floyd County Kentucky, the son of Walter and Florence (Derosset) Sawyer. Franklin had lived in the area for 65 years. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti for 32 years retiring in 1988. He then drove bus for Stockbridge School district for 9 years. Golfing, hunting, playing softball, gardening, blue grass music and being with his grandchildren he truly loved. On October 10, 1959 he married Bethel Hicks and she survives, also surviving are three children, Franklin (Sherry) Sawyer of Munith, Gary Sawyer of Munith, and Pamela (Marty) Greenwald of West Milton, Ohio; Three brothers, Dewey (Edith) Sawyer and Paul (Jill Glair) Sawyer all of Jackson, and Bernard (Melba) Sawyer of Columbia City IN; one sister Arlene (Garry) Griffin of Jackson; one brother-in-law Robert Hunter; six grandchildren, Mallory Eccleton, Jacob Sawyer, Kate Eccleton, Andrew Sawyer, Kelly Sawyer, and Amanda Sawyer. Age 82 passed away at the Heartland Hospice in Superior Township on December 19 surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Andy and Hattie (Jackson) Brown on March 13, 1924 in Ivyton Kentucky. On September 12, 1946 in Angola Indiana he married Rose Mary Cheesbro and she survives. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army, and was employed At Rockwell International as a tool and die designer for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. Andy loved to hunt fox, coons rabbits, birds and deer, most of all he loved his family and his faith. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Star (Brian) Crowdis of Grass Lake, Dennis Brown or Grass Lake, Hattie J. Davis of Grass Lake, Paul B. (Audrey) Brown of Adrian, Danny (Carol) Brown of Grass Lake, Leon (Melinda) Brown of Grass Lake, Lois (Gregg) Hodgin of Asheboro, NC and Duke (Sandy) Brown of Grass Lake; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Age 84, passed away Sunday December 17, 2006 at W.A. Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan. She was born on October 6, 1922 in Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Roy and Edna (Bailey) Goodknecht. Marian had lived in the area all her life and was a 66 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge. She worked for Jacobson’s for 25 years as a switch board operator. Sewing, camping, fishing, boating and a Michigan State fan were her favorite things in life. She also was a ham operator and loved her computer and was a good neighbor and friend. Surviving four girls, Janet (Paul Murphy) Long of Stockbridge, Joyce (John) Salyer of Mason, Jean (Marty) Bliss of Stockbridge, and Linda (Jerry) Lowe of Munith; three sisters, Betty Miloszewski of Arizona, Vivian Spry of Jackson, and Phyllis Stowe of Stockbridge. The Children’s father George ’Charlie’ Hardt of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Albert and Helen Malcho, her second husband Clifford Buckley and her special companion for 17 years, Roy Dewitt. Age 85 passed away at home on December 17. She was born the daughter of Charles A and Carolyn (Haines) Jones on August 30, 1921 in Chester, Pennsylvania. On November 2, 1946 she married Salvadore Chieffi and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2003. Anita enjoyed reading, visiting restaurants and watching the water at the inlet, when she traveled to Florida. She was also a prolific dreamer which she incorporated into her poem and songwriting hobby. Anita is survived by her children Norman Buerdsall of California, Jan A. (Sandy) Chieffi of Grass Lake, and Brady (Minyo) Chieffi of Osan Air Base, South Korea. Also surviving are her grandchildren Susan Buerdsall, Jared Chieffi, Derek Chieffi, Bonnie Chieffi, Song He Yu, Mark Kee, and Patrick Kee; her great grandchildren Dylan, Paton, Jasmine, Brendan, Nathan and Sophia Chieffi as well as, many nieces and nephews. Smith, who survives her after 35 years of marriage. Marie lived in the area since 1972, moving from Detroit. She attended Bethesda Bible Church in Ypsilanti. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father, three children and nine grandchildren: Father Leonard Drogorub; Daughter Shelley (Robert) Parish and children Lydia, Alaina, and Sophia; Daughter Jennifer (John) Goodman and children Katelynn, Benjamin, Abigail, and Levi; Son Robert (Dirsa) Smith and children Sarah and Anna Grace. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Drogorub.

Most of all her passion was to make everybody feel loved and be happy. She loved to decorate the house for all holidays but Christmas was her favorite. On June 20, 1961 she married Gerald R. Barbour and he survives, also surviving are her mother of Houghton Lake, two son’s Tim (Pam) Barbour of Tenn., and Jim (Anji) Barbour of Gregory. Four brothers, Darryl Jr (Betty) Cool of Houghton Lake, Charlie (Mary) Cool of Vernon, William (Kathleen) Cool of Stockbridge, and Mike Cool of Alabama; two sisters, Mary Howlett of Houghton Lake and Cindy Hunt of Houghton Lake; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Marsh lived in the area from 1955 until 2002, when he moved to Naples, FL. He worked for Rockwell International for 39 years. Mr. Marsh was the plant manager at the Rockwell Spring Facility in Chelsea from 1955-1968. He retired from Rockwell in 1978 as Director of Mechanical Devices. Mr. Marsh owned and was the president of the W. A. Thomas Company in Chelsea for almost 20 years until he sold the company in 1989. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Logansport, the Inverness Country Club, a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Chelsea, and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chelsea. On July 31, 1942, he married Sidney A. Hyman, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2001. Surviving are his wife Sara Jayne (Jones) Marsh of Naples; children Anne (Roger) Hanton of Atlanta, MI and William (Carol) Marsh of Brighton, MI; Three step-daughters, Susie (Dave) Little, Becky (Jim) Kragh and Beth (Terry) Brumett; two brothers Max (Alice) Marsh of Logansport, IN and General Robert T. (Joan) Marsh of Falls Church, VA; four grandchildren, Mark White, Rex Marsh, Joan Parks and Christopher White; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His brothers Jack and Stan Marsh and sister Betty Picha preceded him in death. Loving husband of Kathleen and loving father to Carmen passed away at home surrounded by his family at the age of 58. He was born the son of Edward F. and Lorraine (Hall) Smith on October 25, 1948 in Long Branch New Jersey. In his younger years he excelled in little league baseball and football, and was a life scout with pack 45 West Branch, New Jersey. Bill was a graduate of West Shore Regional High School and then attended the University of Toledo where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He enjoyed his profession as the Michigan Sales Representative for Henredon and Ralph Lauren Furniture and he also enjoyed serving on the Dexter Township Planning Commission. On February 5, 1971 in Swanton, Ohio he married Kathleen Hudson and she survives. William enjoyed the outdoors, sailing on North Lake and in Florida, he enjoyed hiking, exercising at the Westside Gym and reading about history. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Carmen Smith of Royal Oak, MI; his mother Lorraine Smith of Melbourne, FL; sister Diana Crawford of Vero Beach, FL; niece and nephew Kelly Crawford of Wilmington, DE and Timothy Crawford of AZ. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Eileen M. Hudson of Ann Arbor and his sister-in-law Karen Zammit of Milwaukee, WI. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell funeral home in Chelsea with Rev. Robert was a self employed carpenter and build many houses in the area. A veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. He was past commander of the Southfield VFW and loved to collect coins. On May 7, 1971 he married Karen L. Blakeney and she survives, also surviving are his mother of Howell, three children, Kelly (Brett) Rousseau of Chelsea, Robert III (Angela) Sloan of Clinton and Stacey (Scott) Morgan of Tecumseh. Two sisters, Rita (Jim) Turner of White Lake, and Cathy (Ed) Nelson of Howell. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, One brother Patrick and one sister Susan Sloan. Age 58, passed away at his Home on Friday December 1, 2006. He was born on January 15, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Robert Sr, and Frances (Choate) Sloan. Robert was a self employed carpenter and build many houses in the area. A veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. He was past commander of the Southfield VFW and loved to collect coins. On May 7, 1971 he married Karen L. Blakeney and she survives, also surviving are his mother of Howell, three children, Kelly (Brett) Rousseau of Chelsea, Robert III (Angela) Sloan of Clinton and Stacey (Scott) Morgan of Tecumseh. Two sisters, Rita (Jim) Turner of White Lake, and Cathy (Ed) Nelson of Howell. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, One brother Patrick and one sister Susan Sloan. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Rev. Dr. William Turner officiating. Norma, age 77, died November 29 at Chelsea Community Hospital following a heart attack. A gifted pastel artist whose works hang coast to coast, she graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 (B.S.) after interrupting her studies to raise four children of whom she was very proud; David (Maureen), Bruce, Trudy Eby and Amy Corser (Eric). She leaves five grandchildren: Laura and Sara Fetterolf, Cory Eby and Dante Jones, and Travis Fetterolf; four sisters, Pat Graham (Dale), Susie Cockerill (Russ) and Ginny Cassaday (Tom), Julie Shear (Herb) and a brother, Dean Baughan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Leona Baughan, and brother Ron, all of Williamston. A graduate of Williamston High School, she attended Alma College and worked at Peoples State Bank before working her way into her junior year at MSU before marrying Carlos Fetterolf of West Hartford, CT, a MSU graduate (M.S.), and moving to TN. The family returned to Williamston in 1958 before moving to the Washington, D.C. area in 1971. The family returned to Williamston in 1973 and moved to the Ann Arbor area in 1975 where Norma worked in real estate. The relocations in 54 years of marriage resulted from following her husband’s career in water quality and fisheries management. Norma was modest and soft-spoken by nature, while at the same time being strong-willed, sure of her convictions and effective in whatever she undertook. Loved and admired by hosts of friends, Norma was elected to the vestries of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Williamston and St. James’ Episcopal Church, Dexter. She served on many church committees and was active in PTA and 4H, passing on her special talents for cooking, canning and tailoring. Favorite pastimes were touring the world, canoeing Michigan’s rivers, quilting, gardening, painting, playing bridge, relaxing and working at the family’s aptly named cabin (The Remedy) and reveling in family gatherings. The celebration of her life will be at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 3279 Broad St., Dexter, 48130 on Saturday, December 2 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Norma’s memory to the St. James’ Episcopal Church Fund for Education. After moving to Sylvan Center and working in the family business she met and married George N. Welch on November 9, 1933 and remained in Sylvan until they moved to Florida in 1968. She was an active member of the Salem Grove Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and volunteer. She was a 4-H leader, foster parent and secretary to the Maple Grove Cemetery during her lifetime in the Chelsea area. She loved to travel, read, paint and was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent times roaming the Sugar Loaf Lake property her father developed. Surviving is, one daughter, Judy A.(Michael) Johns of Saline. Grandchildren: Kenneth M. Johns of Saline and Stacey A. (Jason) Reeves of Ann Arbor and Great Grandchildren, Sonya and Emmett Reeves. Loving wife of James M. Benedict passed away on Friday, November, 10 at the age of 46. She was born the daughter of James and Annette (Eldrington) Thiellesen on July 29, 1960 in Detroit Michigan. On June 9, 1995 she married James Michael Benedict and he survives. Kim was known as an animal lover as seen by her ’pack of raccoons’ and her pet cats. She was also the protector in the family, and would allow anyone to lean on her for support. She enjoyed traveling to Florida when she was able and also liked to ride Harley’s with Jim and also encouraged him to ride when she was no longer able to go, Kim had a huge heart. In addition to her husband, Kim is survived by her brothers and sisters; Kathy Davenport of Alabama, Annette (Mark) Dickenson of Mio, twin brother, James Thiellesen of New Hudson, John Thiellesen of Toledo, OH, Rene’ (Kirk) Sweet of Northville, Joe (Colleen) Thiellesen of Fenton and many special nieces and nephews. Madelyn worked for Chelsea Milling for several years then started her own alterations company and operated it out of her home. In 1964 she married Earl D. Stoker in Chelsea and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2005. Surviving are six children, Jim (Kaye) Taylor of Chelsea, Tom Taylor of Chelsea, John (Kathryn) Taylor of Chelsea, Debbie (Rev. Jim) Merrill of Florida, Lisa Bertke of Whitmore Lake, and Valerie (Kent) Mayhall of Texas, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also surviving are two sisters, Lois Walters of Ohio, and Frances (Robert) Patrick of Kentucky as well as several nieces and nephews. Madelyn worked for Chelsea Milling for several years then started her own alterations company and operated it out of her home. In 1964 she married Earl D. Stoker in Chelsea and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2005. Surviving are six children, Jim (Kaye) Taylor of Chelsea, Tom Taylor of Chelsea, John (Kathryn) Taylor of Chelsea, Debbie (Rev. Jim) Merrill of Florida, Lisa Bertke of Whitmore Lake, and Valerie (Kent) Mayhall of Texas, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also surviving are two sisters, Lois Walters of Ohio, and Frances (Robert) Patrick of Kentucky as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one daughter in-law Brenda Taylor; one granddaughter, Sarah Taylor; three brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Rev. Jim Merrill officiating. Age 91, passed away November 1, 2006. She was born February 7, 1915 to Herbert & Blanche (Variell) Wilkinson in Allegan County. She was a member of M.A.R.S.P. and the Millville United Methodist Church. She liked to travel and did so extensively during her early retirement years. Age 52, passed away Wednesday November 1, 2006 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born on August 24, 1954 in Ann Arbor , Michigan the son of George and Jeannette (May) Winans. John worked for Chelsea Community Hospital and recently received a 30 year award for his dedication for his employment. John attended the Chelsea Free Methodist Church, enjoyed playing the drums, was an avid Michigan State fan and always said hello to everyone. Surviving are his parents of Chelsea, two brothers, Curt Winans of Milford, and Rob (Lori) Winans of Chelsea, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Local 435 in Jackson and enjoyed the breakfast Club with his retirees. On September 23, 1959 he married Marilyn F. Flick and she survives.
