Wanda J. Jackson
of Grass Lake, MI

Age 68, loving wife of Bill for 48 years, passed away at home on December 25, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born the daughter of Leland and Edna (Fisher) Pratt on September 16, 1938 in Jackson, Michigan. On January 17, 1958 she married Bill G. Jackson, and he survives. Wanda enjoyed sewing, making crafts and hosting family parties at her house where she did all the cooking. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Douglas Jackson of Manchester, Mark (Terri) Jackson of TN, Randy (Dawn) Jackson of Manchester, Linda Kensler of Manchester, Cindy (Ron) Cowen of Chelsea, and Karen (Mike) Ball of Chelsea. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and her sisters, Katie (Clifford) McWilliams of AZ, Dorothy Wimberly of TN, Noami (Joe) Fritz of Wayne, MI, Bertha (Frank) Vandercook of Bellville, MI, Leola (Doyle) Kyle of AR, Barbara (Harley) Parker of AR, and her twin sister, Wilda Meithrew of TN. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Florence Keefe. Funeral services will be Friday, December 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with Rev. Alice Sheffield officiating, burial will take place at Oak Grove East Cemetery. Daphne F. Smeltzer
of Stockbridge, MI

Died at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 85 on December 25. She was born the daughter of Albany M. and Alice (Helliwell) Benson on April 7, 1921 in Colwyn Bay, Wales, United Kingdom. On November 22, 1964 she married her second husband Dale E. Smeltzer and he survives. She loved traveling, the theater, she and her first husband were founding members of the Goshen Civic Theater, she was known for her ’world class’ apple pies, enjoyed knitting, and sewing. Daphne was also a very caring person who put others before herself, she loved her family and loved being with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Sandy (Tom) Leabu of Stockbridge, Kim Cramer of Traverse City, Caren Smeltzer of Portland, Oregon, Barry (Terri) Smeltzer of Avondale, AZ, Kathy (Milton) Grant of Goshen, IN; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Richard Cramer, and her brothers and sister. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29 at the Caskey-Mitchell funeral home at 4:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Arbor Hospice Foundation. Todd M. Morris
Of Stockbridge, MI

Age 41, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born on April 23, 1965 in Hendricks, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Carol (Gill) Morris. Todd graduated from Deubrook High School, White, South Dakota in 1983. Todd had lived in the area since 1991. He worked at Great Lakes Endodontics in Lansing as a Dental Technician. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the United Methodist Church of Stockbridge. Todd’s favorite pastimes were boating, hunting, and competing in Triathlon Competitions. On November 18, 1995 he married Susan B. Shollenberger, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Emma, age 10, and Lauren, age 6, his mother Carol, of Brookings, South Dakota, seven sisters, and four brothers: Robert L. Morris II (Susan), of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, Bud Morris (Bonnie), of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Debbie DeYoung (Gary) and their children, Amber, Stephanie and Stephen, of Brookings, South Dakota, Carolyn Schroeder and her children, Michael and Benjamin, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Tim Morris (Terri) and their children, Shane, Katie, and Chelsea, of Eagle, Colorado, Kathleen Monfore (Barry) and their children, Taeler, Ariel, Brooks, Tanner, and Dawson, of Pierre, South Dakota, Tammy Roelofsen (John) and their children, Jaimee, Jenna, and John Jr., of Toronto, South Dakota, Thomas Morris, of Watertown, South Dakota, Gayleen Morris and her children Michael, Matthew, Kahlen, and Chansley of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Betsy Morris and her children Dietrich, and Leith, of Novi, Michigan, and Jodi Goya and her children, Avery and Diesel, of Thornton, Colorado; he is also survived by his father-in-law, William (Kathy) Shollenberger of Toledo, Ohio and brother-in-law, William Shollenberger along with his children, William and Kimberly of MissionViejo, CA. Todd was preceded in death by his father, as well as his mother-in-law Lee Shollenberger. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Stockbridge, with Rev. Robert Henning officiating. Franklin D. Sawyer
of Munith, MI.

Age 66, passed away Thursday December 21, 2006 at Ingham Medical Regional care facility Green Lawn Campus. He was born on February 17, 1940 in Floyd County Kentucky, the son of Walter and Florence (Derosset) Sawyer. Franklin had lived in the area for 65 years. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti for 32 years retiring in 1988. He then drove bus for Stockbridge School district for 9 years. Golfing, hunting, playing softball, gardening, blue grass music and being with his grandchildren he truly loved. On October 10, 1959 he married Bethel Hicks and she survives, also surviving are three children, Franklin (Sherry) Sawyer of Munith, Gary Sawyer of Munith, and Pamela (Marty) Greenwald of West Milton, Ohio; Three brothers, Dewey (Edith) Sawyer and Paul (Jill Glair) Sawyer all of Jackson, and Bernard (Melba) Sawyer of Columbia City IN; one sister Arlene (Garry) Griffin of Jackson; one brother-in-law Robert Hunter; six grandchildren, Mallory Eccleton, Jacob Sawyer, Kate Eccleton, Andrew Sawyer, Kelly Sawyer, and Amanda Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Belvie Hinton, Beulah Hunter; one brother Walter Sawyer Jr. Funeral services will be Saturday December 23, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge. Andy J. Brown
of Chelsea

Age 82 passed away at the Heartland Hospice in Superior Township on December 19 surrounded by his family. He was born the son of Andy and Hattie (Jackson) Brown on March 13, 1924 in Ivyton Kentucky. On September 12, 1946 in Angola Indiana he married Rose Mary Cheesbro and she survives. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army, and was employed At Rockwell International as a tool and die designer for 30 years until his retirement in 1982. Andy loved to hunt fox, coons rabbits, birds and deer, most of all he loved his family and his faith. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Star (Brian) Crowdis of Grass Lake, Dennis Brown or Grass Lake, Hattie J. Davis of Grass Lake, Paul B. (Audrey) Brown of Adrian, Danny (Carol) Brown of Grass Lake, Leon (Melinda) Brown of Grass Lake, Lois (Gregg) Hodgin of Asheboro, NC and Duke (Sandy) Brown of Grass Lake; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Andy was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter Candy Brown; two brothers and four sisters. Marian A. Buckley
of Stockbridge, Michigan.

Age 84, passed away Sunday December 17, 2006 at W.A. Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan. She was born on October 6, 1922 in Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Roy and Edna (Bailey) Goodknecht. Marian had lived in the area all her life and was a 66 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge. She worked for Jacobson’s for 25 years as a switch board operator. Sewing, camping, fishing, boating and a Michigan State fan were her favorite things in life. She also was a ham operator and loved her computer and was a good neighbor and friend. Surviving four girls, Janet (Paul Murphy) Long of Stockbridge, Joyce (John) Salyer of Mason, Jean (Marty) Bliss of Stockbridge, and Linda (Jerry) Lowe of Munith; three sisters, Betty Miloszewski of Arizona, Vivian Spry of Jackson, and Phyllis Stowe of Stockbridge. The Children’s father George ’Charlie’ Hardt of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Albert and Helen Malcho, her second husband Clifford Buckley and her special companion for 17 years, Roy Dewitt. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 20 2006 at 10:30 AM from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home Stockbridge with Rev Shannon O’Leary officiating. Anita G. Chieffi
of Grass Lake

Age 85 passed away at home on December 17. She was born the daughter of Charles A and Carolyn (Haines) Jones on August 30, 1921 in Chester, Pennsylvania. On November 2, 1946 she married Salvadore Chieffi and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2003. Anita enjoyed reading, visiting restaurants and watching the water at the inlet, when she traveled to Florida. She was also a prolific dreamer which she incorporated into her poem and songwriting hobby. Anita is survived by her children Norman Buerdsall of California, Jan A. (Sandy) Chieffi of Grass Lake, and Brady (Minyo) Chieffi of Osan Air Base, South Korea. Also surviving are her grandchildren Susan Buerdsall, Jared Chieffi, Derek Chieffi, Bonnie Chieffi, Song He Yu, Mark Kee, and Patrick Kee; her great grandchildren Dylan, Paton, Jasmine, Brendan, Nathan and Sophia Chieffi as well as, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. William J. Turner officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church. Marie Antoinette Smith
of Pinckney, MI

Age 55, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2006. She was born July 9, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Leonard and Mary (LaCelle) Drogorub. On June 12, 1971 she married Russell D. Smith, who survives her after 35 years of marriage. Marie lived in the area since 1972, moving from Detroit. She attended Bethesda Bible Church in Ypsilanti. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father, three children and nine grandchildren: Father Leonard Drogorub; Daughter Shelley (Robert) Parish and children Lydia, Alaina, and Sophia; Daughter Jennifer (John) Goodman and children Katelynn, Benjamin, Abigail, and Levi; Son Robert (Dirsa) Smith and children Sarah and Anna Grace. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Drogorub.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the Bethesda Bible Church, 1800 S. Huron St., Ypsilanti, with Pastors Leon and Ann Johnson co-officiating. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park. Malcolm ’Wally’ Brown
of Gregory, Michigan

Age 84 - passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 12. He was born the son of Harry L. and Ruth C. (Niemire) Brown on February 22, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. On June 4, 1949 in Dearborn he married Geralda R. Hill and she survives. Wally enjoyed golfing, tinkering, fixing up properties and spending time with all his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons Larry W. (Christine) Brown of Grass Lake and Lee Brown of Sugar Loaf Lake. Also surviving are his sisters, Marie E. Burk of California and Edith A. (Norman) Luttman of Onaway, MI; three grand children, five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Age 65 passed away Tuesday December 5, 2006 at the West Branch Regional Medical Care Center. She was born on August 21, 1941 in Stockbridge, Michigan the daughter of Darryl and Genevieve (Johnson) Cool Sr. She enjoyed flowers, cooking and her grandchildren. Most of all her passion was to make everybody feel loved and be happy. She loved to decorate the house for all holidays but Christmas was her favorite. On June 20, 1961 she married Gerald R. Barbour and he survives, also surviving are her mother of Houghton Lake, two son’s Tim (Pam) Barbour of Tenn., and Jim (Anji) Barbour of Gregory. Four brothers, Darryl Jr (Betty) Cool of Houghton Lake, Charlie (Mary) Cool of Vernon, William (Kathleen) Cool of Stockbridge, and Mike Cool of Alabama; two sisters, Mary Howlett of Houghton Lake and Cindy Hunt of Houghton Lake; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. William M. Marsh
of Naples, Florida
Formerly of Chelsea

Age 88, passed away December 1, 2006, at his home. He was born on Feb. 16, 1918, in Logansport, IN, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Bitler) Marsh. Mr. Marsh lived in the area from 1955 until 2002, when he moved to Naples, FL. He worked for Rockwell International for 39 years. Mr. Marsh was the plant manager at the Rockwell Spring Facility in Chelsea from 1955-1968. He retired from Rockwell in 1978 as Director of Mechanical Devices. Mr. Marsh owned and was the president of the W. A. Thomas Company in Chelsea for almost 20 years until he sold the company in 1989. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Logansport, the Inverness Country Club, a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Chelsea, and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chelsea. On July 31, 1942, he married Sidney A. Hyman, who preceded him in death on May 28, 2001. Surviving are his wife Sara Jayne (Jones) Marsh of Naples; children Anne (Roger) Hanton of Atlanta, MI and William (Carol) Marsh of Brighton, MI; Three step-daughters, Susie (Dave) Little, Becky (Jim) Kragh and Beth (Terry) Brumett; two brothers Max (Alice) Marsh of Logansport, IN and General Robert T. (Joan) Marsh of Falls Church, VA; four grandchildren, Mark White, Rex Marsh, Joan Parks and Christopher White; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His brothers Jack and Stan Marsh and sister Betty Picha preceded him in death. William G. Smith
of Dexter Township, North Lake

Loving husband of Kathleen and loving father to Carmen passed away at home surrounded by his family at the age of 58. He was born the son of Edward F. and Lorraine (Hall) Smith on October 25, 1948 in Long Branch New Jersey. In his younger years he excelled in little league baseball and football, and was a life scout with pack 45 West Branch, New Jersey. Bill was a graduate of West Shore Regional High School and then attended the University of Toledo where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He enjoyed his profession as the Michigan Sales Representative for Henredon and Ralph Lauren Furniture and he also enjoyed serving on the Dexter Township Planning Commission. On February 5, 1971 in Swanton, Ohio he married Kathleen Hudson and she survives. William enjoyed the outdoors, sailing on North Lake and in Florida, he enjoyed hiking, exercising at the Westside Gym and reading about history. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Carmen Smith of Royal Oak, MI; his mother Lorraine Smith of Melbourne, FL; sister Diana Crawford of Vero Beach, FL; niece and nephew Kelly Crawford of Wilmington, DE and Timothy Crawford of AZ. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Eileen M. Hudson of Ann Arbor and his sister-in-law Karen Zammit of Milwaukee, WI. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell funeral home in Chelsea with Rev. Kathy Schell officiating, a private burial will take place at a later date. Robert C. Sloan Jr

Age 58, passed away at his Home on Friday December 1, 2006. He was born on January 15, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Robert Sr, and Frances (Choate) Sloan. Robert was a self employed carpenter and build many houses in the area. A veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. He was past commander of the Southfield VFW and loved to collect coins. On May 7, 1971 he married Karen L. Blakeney and she survives, also surviving are his mother of Howell, three children, Kelly (Brett) Rousseau of Chelsea, Robert III (Angela) Sloan of Clinton and Stacey (Scott) Morgan of Tecumseh. Two sisters, Rita (Jim) Turner of White Lake, and Cathy (Ed) Nelson of Howell. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, One brother Patrick and one sister Susan Sloan. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Rev. Dr. William Turner officiating. Norma Baughan Fetterolf
of Chelsea,
Formerly of Williamston, MI and Ann Arbor

Norma, age 77, died November 29 at Chelsea Community Hospital following a heart attack. A gifted pastel artist whose works hang coast to coast, she graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 (B.S.) after interrupting her studies to raise four children of whom she was very proud; David (Maureen), Bruce, Trudy Eby and Amy Corser (Eric). She leaves five grandchildren: Laura and Sara Fetterolf, Cory Eby and Dante Jones, and Travis Fetterolf; four sisters, Pat Graham (Dale), Susie Cockerill (Russ) and Ginny Cassaday (Tom), Julie Shear (Herb) and a brother, Dean Baughan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Leona Baughan, and brother Ron, all of Williamston. A graduate of Williamston High School, she attended Alma College and worked at Peoples State Bank before working her way into her junior year at MSU before marrying Carlos Fetterolf of West Hartford, CT, a MSU graduate (M.S.), and moving to TN. The family returned to Williamston in 1958 before moving to the Washington, D.C. area in 1971. The family returned to Williamston in 1973 and moved to the Ann Arbor area in 1975 where Norma worked in real estate. The relocations in 54 years of marriage resulted from following her husband’s career in water quality and fisheries management. Norma was modest and soft-spoken by nature, while at the same time being strong-willed, sure of her convictions and effective in whatever she undertook. Loved and admired by hosts of friends, Norma was elected to the vestries of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Williamston and St. James’ Episcopal Church, Dexter. She served on many church committees and was active in PTA and 4H, passing on her special talents for cooking, canning and tailoring. Favorite pastimes were touring the world, canoeing Michigan’s rivers, quilting, gardening, painting, playing bridge, relaxing and working at the family’s aptly named cabin (The Remedy) and reveling in family gatherings. The celebration of her life will be at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 3279 Broad St., Dexter, 48130 on Saturday, December 2 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Norma’s memory to the St. James’ Episcopal Church Fund for Education. Charles E. Campbell Jr.

Loving husband of Debra and loving father to Vanessa and Leah passed away on November 26, in Chelsea at the age of 52. He was born the son of Charles E. Sr. and Charlotte (Williams) Campbell on October 9, 1954 in Huntington, Indiana. On August 3, 1974 he married his high school sweetheart Debra Dowden and she survives. Charles was known as a hardworker that enjoyed working on his house or in his garden. He was very funloving and put the needs of others before his own. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his daughters Vanessa (Michael) Haight of Minneapolis, MN and Leah Campbell of Stockbridge. Also surviving is his brother Cliff (Debi) Campbell of Waterford, Debra’s parents, Kenneth and Mary Dowden of Hunington, IN and many brother and sister-in-laws as well as nieces and nephews. Luther J. Horn
Of Dansville, MI,

Age 79, passed away Friday November 24, 2006 at W.A. Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan. He was born on July 1, 1927 in Magoffin County Kentucky the son of William Sr. and Dora (Patton) Horn. Luther had lived in the area since 1938 coming from Kentucky. He worked for the Oldsmobile car company for 30 years in Lansing. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and a very active member of the Church of Christ in Stockbridge. On September 6, 1952 he married Evagene Fletcher and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2005. Surviving are Four children, Tony Horn of Mesick, Patricia Horn of Dansville, Vicky (Bill) Luppo of Jackson and Phillip Horn of Mesick. Two brothers, William Jr. (Ethel) Horn of Stockbridge, and Bill (Della) Horn of Cooksville, Tenn. Six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by one son, John E. Horn and Three brothers, Clifford, Calvin, and Earmol Horn and one sister, Melva Slayden. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM. from the Stockbridge Church of Christ with Larrel Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Stockbridge. Berjeski, Walter F.
Of Chelsea

Age 87, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born the son of the late Frank F. and Mary (Menczan) Berjeski in Smithfield Township, Ohio on March 4, 1919. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He was employed by ConRail as an Engineer and retired in 1981. On October 8, 1938 in Adena, Ohio he married Catherine Goldyn, and she survives. Also surviving are his children W. Ronald (Marilynn) Berjeski of Dearborn, Janice (James) Coffman of Stockbridge, and Joan (Russell) Peer of New Baltimore; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Morton Thornsbury
of Jackson

Age 77 passed away at Foote Hospital in Jackson, Michigan on November 19, 2006. He was born the son of Bill and Mintie (Atckins) Thornsbury on March 29, 1929 in Floyd County, Kentucky. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going to the casinos, bluegrass music and spending time with his grandchildren. Morton is survived by his children; Charlie (Pam) Thornsbury of Munith; Morton (Brenda) Thornsbury of Leslie; Walter (Pam) Thornsbury of Crosby, Texas; Irene (Alvin) Craft of Pleasant Lake; Karen, Kenny and Mary Thornsbury all of Jackson and Laurie Urbaniak of Rives Junction. Also surviving is a brother, William Jr. of Leslie; four sisters, Becky (Alfred) Rushlow of Detroit; Bethel Bradley of Dansville; Maggie Minix of Jackson and Thelme (Ronald) Rushlow of Leslie. He has 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Jimmy; brothers, Milie and George; and two sisters, Ethel Bradley and Dorothy Bailey. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at 2:00 pm at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge with Pastor Lawrence Arnett officiating, burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Leslie. Mary Apostal
Of Chelsea, MI

Age 90, passed away Saturday November 18, 2006 at the Chelsea Retirement Community Towsley Village Cottages. She was born on April 6, 1916 in Kayville, Saskatchewan. She was the head pastry cook at Grace Hospital in Toronto, Ohio from 1945 to 1950. Mary also owned and operated a Beauty shop for several years. Crocheting and spending winters in Florida she enjoyed. On February 9, 1935 she married Constantine Apostal and he preceded her in death on December 16, 2006. Surviving are two sons, Peter (Nancy) Apostal of Statesville, NC and Paul (Linda) Apostal of Dexter; two sisters, Ethel Hulmes of Toronto and Sally Alexis of Saskatchewan; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a infant daughter and three brother and five sisters. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 1:00 PM. From the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea. Entombment will follow at Arbor Crest Cemetery in Ann Arbor. Expressions of sympathy can be made to America Cancer or Towsley Village. Shirley Caskey
of Fowlerville, MI

Age 78, passed away in Lansing, Michigan surrounded by her family on November 15, 2006. She was born the daughter of Jesse and Violet (Becker) Bugard on May 6, 1928 in Fowlerville, Michigan. On December 28, 1946 she married Kenneth L. Caskey in Fowlerville, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Shirley is survived by her children, Gary Caskey of Charlotte, Rod (Joanne Tadgerson) Caskey of Mason, Christine (Dan) Lowe of Howell, and Maribeth (Wes) Campbell of Hartland, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; also one sister Muriel Epley, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8.
